Abigail Ann Sterling

Abigail Ann Sterling, 27, of Dallas, Texas and formerly of Beaumont passed away on November 10, 2023.

Abby was born on May 18, 1996 in Beaumont Texas to Paula Ann Brindza Sterling and Kyle Moye Sterling Sr.  She graduated from West Brook High School in 2014 and was voted Miss Westbrook and Homecoming Queen for her class. Abby lettered four seasons at third base for the Bruins and is West Brook’s only 4 time all district athlete in team sports. She also played for the select team Hit Away Gold, out of Houston. After graduation she went on to play 3 years of Division 1 softball at the University of Louisiana Lafayette on a full scholarship. She was a two-time Sun Belt Conference Academic All American selection, and was a part of three Sun Belt championship teams. In 2019, she graduated from Louisiana College with a Bachelor's in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. Shortly after graduation, Abby accepted her first coaching position as the strength and conditioning coach at the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain in Mena, Arkansas. From there, she spent the 2021-22 academic year as an assistant coach and residence life specialist at Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas. In September of 2022 Abby joined the UT Dallas softball staff. Her first season there, the Comets reached the ASC Championship Tournament with a 24-18 record. She helped coach eight all-conference selections, including the ASC Tri-Pitcher of the Year. She was a bicycle enthusiast and enjoyed the outdoors. She cherished making memories with her family at their Farm in Warren, Texas. Abby always had a smile on her face and was the most selfless and giving person you could meet. Above all else, she treasured her family.

Abby was survived by her father, Kyle Moye Sterling Sr. of Beaumont; sister, Madeline Sterling Vanderweg and her husband Michael Vanderweg of Nederland; her brother, Kyle Sterling, Jr. of Beaumont; her favorite nephew, Michael Moye Vanderweg of Nederland.

Abby was preceded in death by her grandparents, Marvin and Jane Sterling and James and Ann Brindza; her mother, Paula Ann Sterling who passed away on January 8, 2021. Abby's spirt was unwavering and her energy contagious. The world will be a little darker without her in it.

A gathering of Family and Friends will take place from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland.  A "Celebration of Life" Memorial Service to Honor the LIfe and Memory of Abigail Ann Sterling will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 18th at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland.  Private Family Cremation services will be held at a later date.

My deepest condolences to you and your family on the passing of Abby. I remember the joy she brought with her warm smile when we met during her softball days at LC College. We were down to watch our son Coach Bobby and noticed her guiding light that she spread throughout her team. May the cherished memories of her bright spirit provide comfort during this difficult time.

My daughter and I met Abby at a visit to Angelina College. Abby was immediately a breath of fresh air. She was positive, personable and just fun to be around. Abby made us feel like old friends and we could ask her anything. The softball community benefited from her presence. Praying for all that loved her.

Let me make one promise to you with 100% certainty….We are not guaranteed tomorrow. Sunday morning, as Susan & I were getting ready to walk out the door to go to church, we were startled by a shocking phone call from our son. With a very shaky voice trying to sound strong and firm, I heard the words, “I just found out that Abby has died!” Well, what do you say to that? All of the sudden, the attempt to get to church on time is completely lost in an onset of emotion. Years and years of memories with my son and his best friend began playing in my head. To say that this was a remarkable person would not begin to describe the depth of her loving personality. Abby was an incredible athlete, homecoming queen, prom queen, Ms. West Brook… I mean this girl had it all. She was a true friend to my son and the two were inseparable ever since the first day that they met. They were two peas in a pod. She was the most friendly, confident person that I believe I have ever known. She would make even the lowliest person feel like they were her very best friend from birth. She was one of THOSE people. The kind of person that you aspire to be. To say that she touched EVERYONE she met is merely an understatement. I say all of this to just attempt to make a quick brush stroke in painting a very small picture of the life that she lived….She was truly an incredible person who was very kind hearted, tender, and quite frankly, just a wonderful human being. I could go on and on writing about how remarkable Abby was, but the very best thing that I can write about her is that she was a friend of Jesus. SHE KNEW JESUS AND HAD GIVEN HER LIFE OVER TO HIM! The Lord works in mysterious ways and His ways are not our ways, and between the two of us, I’m glad for that. Romans 8:28 reads “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” This means to me that what satan means for destruction, for those that love the Lord, GOD WILL RECEIVE HIS GLORY! Satan is defeated. He may think he took a life from this earth, which he did, but what I need to remind him of is that there WILL be many more that come to the knowledge of the saving grace of Jesus through Abby’s life in the days to come. Her story is not over. So, back to my original statement….WE ARE NOT GUARANTEED TOMORROW. Abby was ALWAYS the life of the party. Shoot, sometimes she WAS the party. She always wanted every one to be included. She did not want one single person to be left out. She wanted everyone to be where she was. She wanted everybody to experience what she was experiencing. I would be remiss to not take this opportunity and invite you, on Abby’s behalf, to invite you to give your life to Christ, even now as you are reading this, so that you too one day can be where Abby is, and that is in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. All you have to do is confess that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead and is preparing a place for you in Heaven, and follow Him. His yolk is easy friends, and His burden id light. In Him we can find peace even in the midst of pain. Sometimes it may be hard, but He’s a great God Who is loving and patient with us. Please pray earnestly for the Sterling family. Kyle Sr, Kyle Jr, Maddie, the Smith family’s door is ALWAYS open to you. We loved Abby like our own and likewise, we love you like our own as well. Please do not hesitate on bit to call us day or night. 409-673-6173
