Aida Maria Vassallo, 89 of Port Neches, Texas passed away, Tuesday February 2, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Montevideo, Uruguay to Italian immigrants from Centola, Italy, Giuseppe Vassallo and Giovanna Colicigno.
In her early years, Aida dedicated her life to her love for education. She pursued a degree in law, was a poet and a philosopher. She was a woman of culture and her love for diversity led her to learn five languages. She lived through World Wars, Military Coups, Revolutions and her great transition to the United States.
She was unconventional, her own woman. A revolutionary and non-conformist. She had strong convictions about human rights and freedom. She loved literature, poetry and people but most of all, her family. Aida was an award-winning poet and looked at the world differently than most. She loved animals and often said that animals were better than humans.
In her later years of life, she exemplified the true meaning of a mother's love with her life of sacrifice and dedication to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Her perseverance, unselfish love and strength catapulted her family roots to a new way of life in the USA. She was the Matriarch of our family and her spirit and legacy lives on in all of us and the many lives she impacted.
Aida lived in this area for 30 years and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Port Neches.
A visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at First United Methodist Church in Port Neches with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park in Rockwall, Texas on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
