Alene Marie Odom, a beloved figure in the Port Neches community and dedicated servant of education, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at the age of 94 in Port Neches, Texas. Born on October 4, 1930, in Hulbert, Oklahoma, Alene led a life marked by her unwavering commitment to her family and her profession, as well as her deep appreciation for the beauty of nature.
Alene distinguished herself as the Secretary of the Port Neches-Groves Independent School District, where she contributed significantly to the educational landscape, fostering a nurturing environment for both staff and students. Her kindness and dedication to her work left an indelible mark on those who knew her.
Beyond her professional achievements, Alene had a personality that radiated warmth and joy. She found immense pleasure in bird watching, immersing herself in the tranquility of the outdoors. The beach and the soothing presence of water were also sources of happiness for her, providing a perfect setting for reflection and relaxation. Alene cherished the harmonious tunes of old country music, which accompanied her in many joyful moments throughout her life.
Alene is survived by her loving son, Thomas Odom, and his wife Donna. She took pride in her family, and her legacy continues to shine through her cherished grandchildren: Sabrina Odom, Sarah Odom, P.J. Odom, and Samantha Odom. Furthermore, she was a doting great-grandmother to James Michael Odom, Joseph Davidson, Jed Goodson Odom, and Kathryn M. Odom, all of whom carry forward her spirit of love and kindness.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Paul Odom, who was her steadfast partner in life, as well as her parents, Floyd Thomas Fisher, Sr. and Alma Fisher. Alene was also predeceased by her son, Billy Odom, and her brother, Floyd Fisher Jr., each of whom she held dear in her heart.
A graveside service beginning at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, taking place at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block Street, Port Neches, Texas.
