Alpha Garvin Myers

June 30, 1935 — April 10, 2011

After a brief battle with lung cancer, Alpha Garvin Myers passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Alpha was a devoted wife, loving mother and mother-in-law, adoring grandmother and great friend who will be deeply missed by all those whose lives she touched. Survivors include her daughter, Beverly Myers-Dominguez, and her husband, Juan (Pepe) Dominguez of Port Arthur, Texas; Alpha is also survived by the light of her life her only grandson, Jeremy Dominguez of College Station, Texas. Additionally, she is survived by her two siblings, RD Garvin and Bettie Grillo both of Beaumont. She was preceded in death by her soul mate and husband of 55 years, Maurice (Mickey) Myers, and their two sons, Jeffery Myers and Barry Myers. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Roy and Effie Garvin. Alpha was born in Hamshire, Texas, but moved to Nederland and later Port Arthur, as a child. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School before marrying Mickey Myers and becoming an Air Force wife, where she and Mickey made many lifelong friends with whom they remained close. After years of being a homemaker and raising her three children, she entered the workforce and enjoyed working as a dental assistant for over 20 years. Following her retirement, she became an active member of Gulf Coast Area SERTOMA. Alpha was also a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Nederland. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremy Dominguez, John Myers, Tim Myers, Greg White, Brent Garvin, Donnie Varing, Butch Bertin and Ben Wolf. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00p.m.-8:00p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with a Rosary Service conducted at 7:00p.m. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2011 at the funeral home, with interment following at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Gulf Coast Area Sertoma would be a lovely way to remember Alpha. Donations can be mailed to GCAS c/o 5211 Brigette Court, Groves, Texas 77619.
