Amerlis Strickland, 77, of Groves, Texas passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, Texas. Amerlis was born September 11, 1934 in Port Arthur, Texas to Willie Elvis Barnes and Annie Lou Smith Barnes. She was a resident of Groves for 49 years and a member of First Baptist Church of Groves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Strickland; son, Tom Strickland; and brother, Mike Barnes. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Tyler and husband, Larry of Groves, TX; brother, George H. Barnes and wife, Glen of Orange, TX; grandchildren Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 24, 2011 at First Baptist Church Groves with Dr. Joe Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. My grandmother Hazel Cappen and Aunt Anna Lou were great friends & our mothers were very close as children I still have pics from when they were kids

Amerlis and I have known each other since birth and our mothers were the best of friends till their passing. Amerlis has always been the sweetest, gentlest lady I know and I'm so very sad to learn of her death. Heaven is a better place today because of her presence.
