Amos Wilson Risinger

May 23, 1934 – December 1, 2023

Amos Wilson Risinger, 89, passed away on December 1, 2023 at his home in Port Neches.  He was born May 23, 1934 to MB and Lassie Risinger in Timpson, Texas.  Amos was the second child and had 3 siblings: Doris, Ferron, and Jannelle.  He grew up in East Texas, attending Timpson high school, and began his lifelong love of all things electronic and airplanes.  Among his many accomplishments, he built a camera, did radio repairs, designed an automatic dishwasher (mainly to determine how to get out of hand washing dishes!) and took his first airplane ride.  He performed his first solo flight February 24, 1958.  He enrolled in the Army in 1953 and served for 3 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and leading instrument installation in Formosa.  He later obtained his associate degree in Instrumentation from Lamar University, Beaumont, Texas. Amos met his beautiful wife of 66 years, Kathleen, in Nacogdoches through an introduction by his mother and was married June 1, 1957.  They moved to Port Neches where he spent the rest of his working life in the petrochemical refinery industry, ultimately retiring after 36 years from Jefferson Chemical Company (Texaco).  He loved family and fishing, spending many wonderful times at their cabin on Sam Rayburn Lake.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son and friend and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Amos is survived by his wife, Kathy; children, Teresa Danna and her husband Sam, and Kim Risinger; granddaughters, Leah Holt and her husband, Michael, Helen Heffner and her husband, Taylor; great-grandchildren, Avery and Mason Holt, and Rouxbee Heffner, and sister, Jannelle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Melancon-Levingston Funeral Home, 2001 Nall St, Port Neches followed by interment at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 618 Block St, Port Neches.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Methodist Church in Port Neches, where Amos was an active member, or to the charity of your choice.

Rest in peace, Wilson. I will remember you as a kind, intelligent, and talented brother-in-law. I'll also remember your being quick to laugh and loving a good cup of coffee. My deepest sympathy to you, Kathy, and to Teresa and Kim as well as all the family. May you find strength in one another. Love, JoAnn

I have the honor of being friends with Amos and Kathy through many years, at church, social functions and travel. Amos was always pleasant and a joy to associate with in every venue. Thank God for people of Amos' nature and loving attitude. May Kathy and their children remember the good times and be comfortable in the knowledge that Amos provided a good family foundation, built on love and Christian reverence. My love and sympathy are sincerely sent to each member of his family.

I have so many great memories of Amos. First of all is his laugh. He had a great sense of humor coupled with a quick wit of his own. He is one of the most common sense brilliant persons you could meet. He bailed me out of many a spot. All I had to do and ask, ‘Mr. Risinger’I have a problem with, you name it; electrical switch, faucet, commode. He always had the right ‘fix’ for me to learn from and try before calling the professionals. He had a happy glint in his eye when describing the many ‘things’ he researched on the internet. He loved to eat a sandwich with a coke and for desert 1 chocolate chip cookie. I tried to remember to bring him one when visiting or have in pantry when he and Kathy visited us! Perhaps the greatest thing I learned was how to be a ‘lover of my wife’. Amos loved Kathy through 66 years of marriage ups and downs. He was a great example of love and loving! I was blessed to have had him in my life, as husband of his beautiful oldest daughter Teresa, for the last 33 years. Not to shabby! Thank you Mr. Risinger. I love you and look forward to seeing you again!
