Andrew J. Clingan "Chief", 93, of Groves, Texas passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017 at the Rose House in Port Arthur, Texas. Andrew was born July 6, 1923 in Port Arthur, Texas to Lee Roy Clingan and Bertha Mabry Clingan. He was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. He retired from Sabine Towing & Transportation as a Chief Engineer after 63 years of service, and was the only Chief Engineer able to go worldwide for Sabine Towing. Andrew was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Port Arthur where he taught Sunday school, he was a very devout Christian and passed his faith to his children to live responsible productive lives and to help others. He was a member of Groves Lions Club, Port Arthur Masonic Lodge #1264, and charter member of the SIU. Andrew proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was fun loving, and had a light hearted view of life, leaving everyone he met with a smile on their face. He loved hosting backyard bar-be-ques and a good game of dominoes, especially "42". Andrew was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine Clingan; two sisters and two brothers. Survivors include his five children, San Pillion of LaPorte, David Clingan and his wife Robbie of Deer Park, Sherry Armentor of Groves, Jennie Thibodeaux and her husband Shelton of Horseshoe Bay, Carol Dauphine and her husband Terry of Horseshoe Bay; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves with Reverend Donny Robbins officiating.
