Andrew "Andy" Richard Larson died June 8, 2011 in McKinney, Texas at the age of 90. Andy is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Letha Larson, 3 children: Lynda Larson Powell married to James Powell, son Don Larson married to Cindy Larson, and daughter Pam Larson, 5 grandchildren: Jennifer Powell, Allison Powell Tretner married to Mark Tretner, Tony Larson married to Lara Slemmons, Amy Larson Powers married to Mark Powers, Chad Larson, 1 great-grandchild: Maclaine Larson, 3 siblings: Orville Larson, Ervin Larson married to Charlotte Larson, and Donna Larson Mcbeth married to Lloyd Mcbeth. He is predeceased by parents Hans and Minnie Larson. Andy was born on August 15, 1920 in Cordova, Nebraska, where he grew up on a farm, experiencing both the "Dust Bowl" and the "Great Depression" and from an early age was raised by a single father. Experiences such as these shaped him with a strong work, community, and family ethic. Andy joined the Army during World War II and was a Tank Commandant in the 8th Armored Division, 88th Reconnaissance. Upon Andy's discharge from the Army in 1946, he and Letha settled in Friend, Nebraska where they operated a meat market. In 1947 they moved to Port Arthur, Texas and then to Groves, Texas where they lived until earlier this year. Andy began his employment with E.I. DuPont in 1949 at the plant in Orange. It was there he spent over 33 years. Andy was an active member and volunteer at the First United Methodist Church in Groves, Texas and was very active in the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) in Port Neches, Texas for many years. He also coached Little League Baseball for many years in Groves. Andy enjoyed fishing, shrimping, and working on various projects at home, at church, and in service to others. Those who knew Andy knew he was a person who liked to stay busy and get things done appropriately one of his favorite expressions was "That's no hill for a stepper". By God's grace his last steps were to receive his Crown of Glory. Funeral services will be at Groves First United Methodist Church (6501 Washington St. Groves, TX 77619) on Saturday June 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. The interment will be Sunday June 12 at 2:00 at the Prospect United Methodist Church in Florien, Louisiana(1401 Prospect Road Florien, LA 71429. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the VFW post in Port Neches: VFW Post 4820 P.O. Box 83 Port Neches, TX 77651

To my Cousin Andy's family, I have no doubt that my cousin is in heaven. For this, I rejoice. In time, I hope you can rejoice too. He is a dear heart. I loved him since I was a child. One of the kindest people I ever knew. My prayers will continue.

Pam~ What a joy to have known the Larsons way back when! And a particuliar joy to visit them more recently while you were in town one December. Andy was eagerly awaiting the gumbo your mom was making. Please know all of you have been in my prayers and will continue to be.
