Anna Louise Kleinpeter of Groves, Texas passed away on August 8, 2012 at the age of 80 following a long battle with lung disease. A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches with funeral service immediately to follow. Ann was born in Lincoln, Arkansas on November 15, 1931 to George and Bertha Waller, one of 11 children. Ann had many jobs and interests throughout her life, but she will be best remembered as being an excellent cook, and accomplished seamstress and a passionate gardener. She was also an avid reader, loved to learn, and loved to pass her knowledge to others. She was an ardent supporter of the PNG Band, a Girl Scout leader and was the first woman on the Round Table Committee in area Boy Scouts, and for many years she made the desserts for the Wednesday Night Live at her church, the United Methodist Temple in Port Arthur. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Alvin Waller and Kenneth Waller; and sisters Lola Louvier, Gladys Bushaw, Georgie Thompson, Viola Brandenburg, and Marella Cumby. She is survived by her three remaining sisters Marie Jones, Pauline Reed and Treasel Ward; daughter Debbie Kurtz of Nederland, son David Earl DeRoche and wife Debbie of Nederland, son Steven Carl DeRoche and wife Molly of Nederland, and daughter Nanette Hayles of Port Neches; grandchildren Emily DeRoche, Rachel DeRoche, Crystal Hancock, Ian Hayles, Sherylen Tate, Little David DeRoche, Michael DeRoche, and Sarah Sheffield; and nine great-grandchildren. Heartfelt thanks from the family go out to Home Away From Home, especially Megan and Gina, for all the love and care they gave to Ann in her final days. The family would also like to thank Anna, Wayne and the other team members from Odyssey Hospice for making this difficult time bearable, and Ann's many friends, nieces and nephews for their faithfulness, love and prayers. Memorial contributions in Ann's name may be made to Bound For The Pound (through Spurlock Road Veterinary Clinic) or the Groves Public Library.

I met Ms. Kleinpeter after she read one of my columns in the Port Arthur News and offered me some mint. Over the years I visited her at her home and reaped the benefits of her company as well as pesimmons and cuttings. The jasmine/gardenia from her yard is flourishing in mine. When I changed jobs, she tracked me down and called me with tips. I consider her a wonderful lady.

Mom, you looked so beautiful. Pretty in pink. The things that Molly & Debbie talked about brought back so many memories. Good memories. David taking Steven & me joy riding when he was supposed to be talking us to mass. In your VW. The birthday present that you gave me wrapped in pink & that you had decorated with conversation hearts that you had glued on in the shape of a heart. The Raggedy Ann & Andy that you made for me when you made the costumes for Debbie & David. Many, many memories.Because of you, I had the chance to talk to my brothers & sister & hug them. That felt really good. Mom, I miss you. I hope Grandma, Uncle Kenny & everyone else had the biggest party for you when you got there. What a joyous time for you guys!

My prayers are with Anne's family. She was so good to my family in taking care of my grandmother and I was able to experience some of her great seamstress skills as she made bedding and curtains for my first child which I am still using to this day in my 3rd child's room. Such a strong and enduring woman. I am blessed to have known her! She will be missed!

Mom, I'm so glad we had time to talk and reconnect on such an intmate level. Had your dress hemmed for your servcice. I cried when I realized you won't be altering or sewing for me anymore. You were my go to for all things sewed. Think I'm going to give a class in making your lemon curd for the girls at work. You lemons will be ready in time for my birthday. Be at peace and enjoy your reunion with all those that went before you. Wish I could see you with all your guys! Now that is a reunion! Lot of love and kisses raining down on you Mom. PS...Hope you fit into my personal piece of clothing...:-o

Dale and I are sorry for your loss. Aunt Anna was a fun loving, talented lady. We still have the dress she made for our daughter Tonia when she 1 year old, and our granddaughter wore it to Scott our son's wedding. The love and time she put into it shows. We will always treasure it and the memories we have of Aunt Anna. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

My first memories of my Aunt Anna is laughter. She and mom did a lot of that as they cooked, sewed and made all us kids behave. She was an unbelievable cook. She gave me a copy of one of her favorite cookbooks, along with her comments written in the column! Aunt Anna was there at the beginning of my life. She helped deliver me at Dr. Boyers' clinic in Lincoln. Remember her in joy, cousins. I plan to.
