Archie Windham, 45, of Nederland, passed away in his sleep on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Archie was born August 12, 1971 in Nederland, to his loving and wonderful parents: Ruth Windham and the late Roy Windham. Archie graduated from Nederland High School where he served as probably the most animated, creative and controversial Big Ned mascot in school history. He then attended The University of Texas at Austin and Lamar University, and we are confident there are no more vocal or enthusiastic Longhorn fans on this planet. Archie combined his fiercely independent spirit with his love and deep knowledge of sports to found, develop and operate a very successful and innovative sports memorabilia/historical documents business: “Ultimate Sports”. Archie was passionate about many things, including his friends, politics (especially the issues of racial and income inequality and justice), film, literature and of course, sports. Archie had strong opinions about those and other issues and cherished discussing them with his many wonderful friends. Archie loved his friends and family with all of his big heart, and he would do absolutely anything for them.
He is survived by his mother, Ruth Windham of Nederland; brothers, Ronnie Windham and wife, Rebecca of Frisco, TX, Darrell Windham and wife, Teresa of Austin, TX; sisters; Joy Holt and husband, Reggie of Grove, Oklahoma, Terri Finley and husband, Mike of Plano, TX and a host of his treasured nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Archie’s family ask his friends to join them for a social hour on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 10:00 a.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. A brief burial service will follow immediately thereafter at Memory Gardens in Nederland. The family has established The Archie Windham Memorial Fund in Archie’s honor to fund scholarships for worthy students attending The University of Texas.
