Archie! I cannot believe you’re gone, absolutely cannot believe it! The last time we talked in August, you said: “Using your first round pick on Elliott is not a bad idea”. So, I picked him and it’s paying off!! I’ll never forget playing in the N vs S tournament in San Antonio. That was one of the COLDEST & WETTEST tournaments EVER!!! We all so badly wanted to lose out but not really lol. Every time we were losing and were like “yes, we’re going to lose”, we would somehow wake up our bats and start pounding on the other teams, run-ruling them and having to play another game at 2 and 3am lol. I remember cheering when the other team got us out because we were so over the coldness. Nobody was going to actually try to lose, we just wouldn’t have been too mad if we did because then that meant we were able to get sleep AND defrost inside. I didn’t play for you for a long time but I played against you all the damn time and your loudness got on my last nerve!!! But… when I started to play for you, I realized you were that way because you were just passionate for the game, truly loved playing, winning and winning the right way. Your “lets fn go” and “ball don’t lie” cracked me up every time (I'm actually laughing now as I hear your voice saying it)….. pretty sure those phrases should be retired and no longer said; Nobody will ever say it as loud as you did!! I hope you’re up there already scouting your team, picking a team name and filling their heads with all the knowledge you had. You’ll be missed down here but we’ve all got long lasting memories of you that we’ll never forget!!

I am deeply saddened by the loss of our pal, Archie. I met him in junior high during Nederland Babe Ruth Baseball Season, and, ever since those days, Archie has been an Inspiring person to me and a ton of our pals at Nederland High a School and on. Archie, thank you for making all of us laugh and smile! You have your All to us, and, you were always there for us when we needed a pal to listen. Thank You for mentoring me in baseball in our youthful days. You taught me Leadership, and also to not give a shit what others think about me...that was priceless. Prayers to your family and our pals!

I met Archie in my first year at the Lamar University Press. He helped me write my first feature. We were among staffers who stayed up all night at the office working on the 75th anniversary issue. He was witty and friendly, and his laid back attitude about life made him easy to be around and talk to. It wasn't long before we discovered a connection between his older siblings and my parents, all Bulldogs. I was just reminiscing about those fun times, still seems like yesterday. Great memories. Sad loss.

Having frequented the Windham home in friendship with Joy before Archie the tail endear, I never got to meet Archie until FB. He and I connected about so many things that happened during his and my daughter's years at NHS. His mom was my children's teacher at FBC Daycare in the 70s--90s. She delighted in sharing Archie stories when we visited at "Hughes'". Ms. Ruth, Joy, and all you are on my mind at the loss of the"baby". May God be by Archie and your family, and May Jesus be holding your hands. Much love...Linda Eastis Cobb

Archie was my very best friend for many years. He was my daily journal, my morning laugh, my afternoon pep up, my strength and encouragement when I felt weak and he always believed in me! I loved him with all of my heart and bickered with him like he was my husband. He had such a BIG personality and he fill me and my kids with joy everyday. Everywhere I look I see things that triggers memories of Archie that fill my mind and heart. Archie and I lost touch with each other about a year ago but the love I had for him never left my heart. We love you Archie. Love always, Amy, Taylor, Travis & Ty Chestnut

I will miss Archie. I met him playing softball but we became more then that over the years. Not quite family but much more then just dinnertime I played ball with. One of the most passionate people I've ever met. One of the few who could match my competitive nature. Archie leavs a void that no one will be ever to fill. Miss you Arch and you will never be forgotten
