Avila E. Arcala, MD, passed away in Everett, Washington, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, after a brief illness. She was born to Quintin and Andrea Estrada in La Union, Philippines, on April 10, 1943, the fifth of seven children. Avila and her husband, Federico Arcala, MD, practiced medicine in Chicago and then in Southeast Texas for 35 years. He preceded her in death in 2015. They were both active members of First Methodist Church in Nederland and were robust pillars in the Philippine-American Community of Texas (PACT), organizing and participating in several medical missions to the Philippines.
Dr. Arcala is survived by her son, Frederick “Freddy” Arcala; her sister, Ame Fuss; and a host of family and friends across the US and abroad.
A memorial service for Dr. Arcala will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at First Methodist Church in Nederland with interment following at Memory Gardens in Nederland.
