He was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on June 12, 1961, He was the son of Johnny Piggott Jr. and Judy “JuJu” Elam-Piggott. He was a lifelong resident of Groves, Texas, and a talented musician he fronted several bands over the years, Rebel with his high school friends. Barry Pickett and the Heartbeat band, (yes, his name was “misspelled” on purpose it was an inside joke because that’s how Barry was) they not only played a multitude of their own shows but backed up some legends like Percy Sledge and Edgar Winter. Twenty-one years ago he began playing music on Sundays for Shining Star Baptist Church of Beaumont which started as a job and became a second home.
Barry was in no way perfect, he was human and as human’s do, he made some big mistakes. He also did some amazing things. He had the biggest heart in the world and the best laugh. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. Always the front man, he excelled at working a room. He did everything, good and bad with his whole heart. His biggest pride and accomplishment in life was his children and grandchildren. He loved them all of them more than they can ever realize. If he wanted to be remembered for anything it would be his love of music, his sense of humor, and the love he had for those closest to him. All of whom will miss him beyond measure.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by lifelong beloved friend , Dottie Britt, of Beaumont, Texas; his daughter, Andee Piggott of Galveston, Texas; son, Brian Piggott and Mckenna Levert of Port Neches, Texas.
