Bernice F. Mangum

Bernice F. Mangum, a beloved member of the community, passed away on December 20, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born on September 3, 1934, in Paige, Texas, to Adolf and Erna Markert.

Bernice was an exceptional individual who led a remarkable life. She had a successful career spanning several years at Texaco Chemical, where she dedicated herself to her work with passion and commitment. After serving several years at Texaco Chemical, Bernice continued her career with H.E.B., where she served with dedication for many years.

Bernice was a dedicated member of Wesley Methodist Church in Nederland. One of Bernice's proudest accomplishments was her involvement as a Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer. She selflessly gave her time and energy to support those in need within the community. Her compassion and genuine care for others touched the lives of countless individuals during their most vulnerable moments.

Family meant everything to Bernice, and she cherished every moment spent with her loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adolf and Erna Markert; her son, Marvin Mangum; her daughter, Cornice Irion; one brother; and five sisters. Although deeply mourned, Bernice will be forever remembered and celebrated by those who survive her.

She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Tarnow and her husband, Kenneth of Beauxart Gardens, Texas, and Amanda Hebert and her husband, John of Sour Lake, Texas. Bernice leaves behind an incredible legacy through twelve grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her love for family was boundless, and she embraced every opportunity to create lasting memories with each generation.

A graveside service to honor the beautiful life of Bernice F. Mangum will be held on December 28, 2023. The service will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland, Texas. The compassionate staff at Memory Gardens Cemetery will provide a peaceful setting to commemorate Bernice's life. The service is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., with attendees invited to gather and pay their respects and honor her remarkable life. The service will be under the direction of Melancon~Levingston Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas.

Bernice F. Mangum will forever be remembered as a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and caring friend. Her infectious smile, warm heart, and unwavering devotion to her family and community will remain etched in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her. As we bid farewell to Bernice, let us also celebrate the beautiful memories she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to shine bright in our lives, guiding us with love and inspiration for generations to come.
