Bertha Ann Ancelet Matt, 82, of Nederland, Texas passed away August 21, 2019. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas on January 7, 1937 to the late Dolza Ancelet and Lena Roger Ancelet. Bertha retired as a medical assistant for Dr. Jan Shook.
Bertha was a very active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland where she served as the organizer for the Church Directory from 2006-2007. She was very involved in the ACTS program, the Altar Society, the Bereavement Committee, RCIA, a Eucharist Minister, and Women’s Guild. Bertha served on the Parish council, twice and helped organize a Singles Group at St. Charles and was Facilitator for Renew. Bertha started the Red Hats at St. Charles and was Queen Mother. She assisted with Mass at Cypress Glen Nursing Home with Father George and Hospital Communion Minister with Larry Minaldi. Bertha also was past president, secretary, on the finance committee, and the Board of Director at the United Board of Missions. She also served with the Sisters of Eucharist Ministers in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Bertha volunteered in many other organizations and called on many friends to volunteer too.
Those left to cherish Bertha’s memory are her 3 sons, Ricky Matt and his wife, Susan of Canyon Lake, Micky Matt and his wife, Reggie of Beaumont, and Nicky Matt and his wife, Lori of Nederland; grandchildren, Ross, Chase, Morgan, Logan, Lindsay, Lauren, Jared, Megan, Brandy, Misty, Taffy, and Kandi; and 8 great-grandchildren, Gage, Maria, Martha, Jensen, Owen, Shepard, Heath, and Brylynn.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a Scriptural Rosary at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland on Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Hughes, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County in Nederland.
