Betty Quincer Goins Betty Quincer Goins was reunited with her beloved daughter, Janie, and devoted husband, Vernon, as they welcomed her into Heaven on Friday, November 5, 2010. She was born on December 14, 1926 in Freeport, Illinois. Betty moved to Port Arthur with her family in 1936. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur and attended Port Arthur College. In October of 1951, she married Vernon Lester Goins. In 1960 they were given the gift of their lovely daughter, Janie Elizabeth. Betty and Vernon shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, most of that time living in the house that the two of them built together in Groves. Betty was retired from Texaco and PNG ISD. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Groves, Texas for approximately 50 years. She served the church in countless ways over the years, serving in various roles, such as treasurer and assisting with The New Journey Class. Perhaps the role that will be remembered most is that Betty played as a cherished second mother and grandmother to generations of church members. Betty was an avid reader of mystery novels. She enjoyed traveling with Janie, spending time at the family beach house in Holly Beach and dining with friends and family. Betty was blessed with a deep compassion for others, charity towards her wonderful friends, neighbors, and church community, and especially to all of her extended family. Betty generously and courageously lived out her belief in the Brotherhood of Man. She will best be remembered for her hilarious story-telling and her quick wit. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Quincer and Geraldine Fransen Quincer, her brother, her husband, Vernon Goins, and daughter, Jane Goins-Flanagan. She is survived by her beloved son-in-law, Henry David Flanagan of Metairie, Louisiana; her cousin, Jim Maize of Houston; and a host of friends who were like family to her. Betty was a volunteer and tour guide at the Museum of the Gulf Coast for many years. She was recently the recipient of Volunteer of the Year Award for the Golden Triangle. Additionally, Betty was also actively involved with various activities at Lamar State College in Port Arthur. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, November 9. The funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 10 at Levingston Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1 pm at Old Cypress Cemetery in DeRidder, Louisiana. The family extends heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Adam Vogel, Betty's nurses and all of the support staff at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center in Houston for their gentle and excellent care for Betty. A special thanks is extended to Pastor Alan Van Hooser. Pastor Beverly Tune, and the entire community of First United Methodist Church for the many years of friendship to Betty and her family. Everyone who loved Betty is saddened by her passing, but they rejoice also, knowing that her never-ending laughter and bright spirit will be with them always. In lieu of flowers, family and friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to the Museum of the Gulf Coast, 700 Proctor Street, Port Arthur, Texas 77640.

Dear family, I don't know if you heard my name ever, but I'm related to Betty through my mother, Henny Kruize-Fransen from Finsterwolde, Holland. Betty visited my parents in august 1951 and since then, my mother kept contact with Betty, until now. Since my mother did not hear from Betty this month, she started to be worried.. she told me several times, she was worried because she did not hear from her. So today when we enjoyed our Christmas diner together, she mentioned this again and later on I started looking on internet... and found this terrible news that Betty died november the fifth. We are very sorry to hear that and are wondering what happened to her; was she ill or did she have an accident? I never met her, but we always shared the news, good and bad with my mother, and as a teenager I wrote to Janie.. so I really would appreciate to hear from you about Bettys last days. Please could you contact me? Thank you, Jantje Heemstra-Kruize

Betty will be missed by so many. I will grieve her loss to us but remember so many good times. Betty and I liked the same mystery authors and had many long discussions about our favorites. She was very fortunate to have Henry and she loved him so very much. I will miss her. Cora

Henry, Anyone who knew Betty knew that this world was a better place with her in it. We all will truly miss her. Ronnie was one of the volunteer's that helped Betty at her accident last Sunday. He has sinced learned how special Betty has been to me over the past 12 years. I always enjoyed waiting on her. Betty had a special way of making everyone around her happy and to smile. She also spoke so highly of you. She loved you a lot. Our thoughts are with you. Phyllis and Ronnie

Grandma, I am going to miss you so much but know that you are happy to be home with Vernon and Janie. I just wish that I could have given you one last hug and kiss before you left to go home. Please watch over those of us until we one day meet again! I love you!
