Betty Lou Haynes, 78, of Nederland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, August 2, 2022. Betty was born in Ebenezer, Louisiana on September 10, 1943, to the late Elia (Dupuis) Dugas and Freddie Dugas.
Betty’s family moved to Texas where she grew up in Port Neches. She was a resident of Nederland for 58 years where her and her husband raised their children. They were also blessed beyond measure to watch their grandchild and great grandchildren enjoy their home place. Betty was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and truly devoted to her Catholic faith. Betty was a loving and generous person, who was always ready to lend a helping hand. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She had a love for camping, fishing, helping her husband harvest produce from the garden, picking berries and making delicious jellies. Betty loved to laugh and drink Big Red. Her kind and generous heart will be missed by all.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Elia (Dupuis) Dugas and Freddie Dugas; son, Kevin Dean Haynes; and sister, Dorothy Lynn.
Those left behind to cherish Betty’s memory are her loving husband, of 58 years, Kenneth Haynes; children, Jed Haynes, Penny Haynes and Brian Haynes; grandson, Blaine W. Heisler and his wife, Kendrick; two great grandchildren, Kennedy and Asa Heisler; brother, Woodrow Dugas; aunt, Bertha Meche; and a host of nieces, cousins and close friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, August 7, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m., at Melancon’s Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2022, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
