Betty Jean Locke

1932 ∼ 2021

Betty Jean Locke, went home to be with Jesus on August 6, 2021, in Kingwood, Texas, following a brief hospital stay.

The daughter of Pervis and Lucille Smith, Betty was born on March 15, 1932 in Port Arthur, Texas.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 66 years, Harold Locke, and is survived by her three daughters, Lori and Steve Hamilton of New Caney, Lisa and Johnny Brady, of Houston, and Kelly and Ed Farrington, of Friendswood. She also leaves behind a dear sister, Evelyn and Lester Crooks, of Nederland, her eight grandchildren, Jared Hamilton, Locke Brady, Dylan Brady, Tyler Hamilton, Jordan Brady, Taylor Farrington, Dane Farrington, and Carley Farrington, as well as 10 great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Betty served as church pianist at the First Baptist Church of Groves for six decades, and taught many children, including her own children and grandchildren, to play. A consummate homemaker, she also loved to study the Bible with her Joy of Living friends, sew clothes for her family, and cook for everyone. A beloved wife, mother, "MawMaw," and friend, her gregarious, loving presence will be missed.

Celebration of Life services will be held at First Baptist Church of Groves, on Thursday, August 12, at 2 pm, with visitation prior to the service at 12:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the FBC Groves Student Ministry, whom Harold and Betty loved and supported through the years. fbcgroves.org/give

I will cherish the many memories we made with Mrs. Locke. Weekends as neighbors at Lake Sam Rayburn singing Church Hymns around the campfire. Sunday mornings at First Baptist Church. Countless visits as a small child to both of the home's they raised the girl's in. She was the kindest woman and inspired so many. I can only imagine what joyful reunion it must have been foe she and Harold to reunite in Heaven. Love and Prayers Christie Trahan Gaspard

I remember Betty playing the piano at church. She played from the heart so faithfully for decades. She was my inspiration to become a church musician. I am grateful for her legacy of church music.

Betty and Buzzy were both born before me and we were next door neighbors all of our early years. They respectively were my oldest niece and nephew. But I thought of them as sister and brother. I was Betty's maiden of honor at hers and Harolds wedding and what I remember of that day we had a hard freeze in February. The beautician who fixed our hair for the wedding had to thaw water to shampoo our hair. The steps at Calvary Baptist Church, Port Acres had ice on them and had to be thawed. However, the wedding happened as scheduled and apparently it took. They enjoyed a long and very happy marriage. She and Harold will be missed by me, only living Aunt and Uncle and all her living cousins on the Morgan side of the family. Rest In Peace Betty.

I can't even remember my life without Ms Betty. Our families were intertwined through First Baptist Groves literally since I was born. I had the wonderful pleasure of being in their home all the time when I was playing with and hanging out with their daughter Lisa. There were SO many laughs and good times I can't even begin to list them all. Harold passed away just a very short time before my own dad in 2017. Betty and my mother ( also Betty) would talk on the phone and comfort each other. She was so sweet and precious. I can visualize her in heaven with Harold and they are singing and she's playing the piano in the presence of Jesus! I love this family so much and I know you will miss her terribly but what joy to think of her in Heaven ❤️😀
