Betty Manuel, 73, of Port Neches passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 with her family by her side. She was born on December 3, 1940 in Pascagoula, Mississippi to the late George Louis Manuel and Doris Madeline Seymour.
Betty was an area resident for most of her life and was a 1960 graduate of Bishop Byrne High School. Betty was retired as a custodian with Port Neches ISD and a homemaker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Port Neches with Father Jim McClintock celebrant. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches under the direction of Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Andrea Bryan and husband Patrick of Port Neches, Erica Heredia and husband Eddie of Port Neches; sons, John Lee DeKerlegand Jr. and wife Hanna of Katy, Aaron DeKerlegand and wife Debbie of Virginia, and James Kent DeKerlegand and wife Marie of Lafayette, Louisiana; sisters, Dot Arnaud of Nederland, Jeanette May of VanCleave, Mississippi, and Margaret Kranke of Pascagoula, Mississippi; seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents, and the father of her children, John Lee DeKerlegand Sr.
