Betty "Ms. Tally" Taliaferro

      Betty Ruth Taliaferro, of the Groves, Texas community, passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at the age of 90, in her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 29, 1934, in Port Arthur, Texas, Betty was known affectionately as "Ms. Tally" to her many customers at Tally's Tackle Shop, which she proudly owned and operated for 25 years.

      In addition to her success in the tackle business, Betty showcased her creative talents through a flourishing cake business where she crafted exquisite wedding cakes and candies. Despite her entrepreneurial spirit, she cherished her role as a devoted homemaker above all.

      Betty had a deep love for family history, and she enjoyed enriching her life and the lives of her loved ones with stories from the past. Her passion for cooking and baking was evident to all who knew her, and her warm and welcoming personality made her home a gathering place for family and friends.

      Betty is survived by her children, Deborah Blackwell and husband Michael of Port Neches, Cindy Miller and husband Robert of Port Neches, Melly Beagle and husband Pat of Port Neches, and Jamey Taliaferro and wife Theresa of Bridge City. She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Brandon Gouthier and wife Melissa, Chrystal Ware and husband Jimmy, Misty Castille, Callie Sutterfield and husband Duie, Melissa Taliaferro and partner Jessica, Jon Beagle and wife Tahlia, Amberly Taliaferro, Erin Harper and husband Trent, Austin Taliaferro and wife Audrey. Betty was blessed with great-grandchildren Flora, Collins, Makayla, Kade, Libbie, Emma, Braxton, Brody, Jeremiah, Maddie, Chloe, Alex, Eric, and Michael.

      Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Grover Stock; her husband of 67 years, James Taliaferro; and her brother, Colby Stock. Her passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire family gatherings and warm memories for generations to come.

      A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Groves located at 5601 39th Street. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
