Betty Jean Wallace

1926 ∼ 2018

Betty W. Wallace passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Groves, TX, with her family by her side.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 27, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, TX.

Betty was born on May 20, 1926, in Urbana, Illinois, the tenth of thirteen children born to Earl Lawrence and Bertha Crane Williamson. She graduated with honors from Urbana High School in 1944 and was married to William Harold Wallace on July 13, 1945. After Harold’s discharge from the United States Navy, they moved to Waco, TX, for him to attend Baylor University. They later moved to Houston, returning to Waco in 1992 as their retirement home. Betty retired in 1989 as Secretary-Treasurer of a mortgage-banking firm in Houston, Tx. She was a life-long member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and enjoyed working in the church. She was a loving wife and mother, spending many happy hours with her children in their various activities. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. In addition to her loving her family, she enjoyed reading, traveling, crafts, and playing bridge. She was always ready for a game of Uno with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and made appliqued Christmas stockings for everyone in the family, as well as knitting hats for preemies in the NICU. She was a delightful, upbeat, intelligent, thoughtful and caring person who had a smile on her face and joy in her eyes.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Harold, her parents and twelve siblings; son, Lawrence E. Wallace; granddaughters, Courtney Michelle Wallace and Andrea Nichole Wallace; great-granddaughter Gabriella Nicole Sparks; and son-in-law Larry H. Friedman.

She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn F. Shealey (Glenn) and Kimberly W. Lewis; son, William Scott Wallace (Linda); daughter-in-la, Sharon Wallace; grandchildren, Michael L. Friedman (Lauri), Mark E. Friedman (Shelby), Leslie A. Friedman (Evan Harvey), Benjamin S. Shealey, Joshua Reitzas (Megan), William C. Wallace, Michelle W. Castillo, Elizabeth W. Condolences

Debra Wesley October 21, 2018
I worked with Betty for many years and loved her dearly. Betty was always professional and kind to her employees. She was one of my favorite people to work for along with John Neal her boss. I am so sorry for your loss and am sending up prayers for the family and friends of Betty. I have been looking for her and her family along with Donna DeLoach Martin. I am so sorry that we just found her and she has recently passed. We would love to hear from Scott or one of her children. I am Debra Ballard Wesley in Pasadena and I am going to call the funeral home and leave my name and number with them so that you may call me. I am also on Facebook and you could instant message me.

I have known Betty for 57 years through what was initially Gulfgate Christian Church. My sister, Linda married her son, Scott Wallace. Betty was a strong Christian and individual whom I highly respected. She will be missed, but I am sure she is with her loved ones and our Father in Heaven.

We met Betty and Harold through Lakewood Christian Church. When Bob and I decided to start delivering Meals on Wheels, it was Betty and Harold that took us on the route we would be delivering. I also interacted with Betty through our Christian Women's Fellowship and always so enjoyed the fellowship with her. She was a beautiful lady.

Aunt Betty was clearly a woman of great love, compassion and dignity. My condolences go out to the entire Wallace and Williamson clan.

I will remember Aunt Betty as a great example of how to live life: full of love for faith, family, and community. My childhood memories are filled with road trips between Houston and Dallas (later Baton Rouge) where we kids stayed busy with play while our parents were busy with the things we worry about now. Aunt Betty, full of love, was always giving of her time to ensure we kids were having fun while teaching positive character traits we weren't aware of. I'll miss you Aunt Betty and know your struggles, valiantly fought, are over now and you are at peace. Love, Bob

Thanks to Aunt Betty for all the wonderful family gatherings at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and more. She was a gracious hostess and a caring and loving aunt. She gave me my first “job” in her office – just a week of volunteer typing assistant, but a great start in the world! Martha Wallace

Aunt Betty was a wonderful person whom I have fond memories of. So sad to see the last of her generation gone but I know she is happy to be at home with our Lord and reunited with Uncle Wally.

I will always remember Betty’s grace, intelligence and dignity. I so enjoyed visiting with her when she would come to Rhode Island to visit Marilyn and her family. Betty was the consummate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. It was an honor to have known her.
