She graduated from Beaumont High School in 1950 and continued her education at Port Arthur College, where she earned her degree in 1961. Following her education, Betty embarked on a fulfilling career that showcased her talents and dedication. She first served as the secretary for the First Methodist Church in Port Neches for two years, followed by a two-year tenure as the Secretary to the Tax Assessor-Collector for the Port Neches Independent School District. She then took on the role of Tax Deputy for Jefferson County in Beaumont for six years. Betty's grandkids loved visiting, often bringing friends along, where the warmth of her hospitality and her love for cooking made everyone feel at home. The Wigley home became a cherished gathering place, frequently hosting reunions filled with fond memories. Betty was an active member of Rayburn Baptist Church, where she played in the ukulele band for several years, served as church clerk, and participated in the kitchen staff.

Betty’s passion for quilting was reflected in her beautiful creations, which she made for family and friends. She was dedicated to teaching others the art of quilting, offering classes in her home where her students created squares that came together into treasured quilts. She held a special place in her heart for the quilts made during these sessions, indicating the sincere connections formed through her love of crafting.
