I first met Mac about 18 years ago when I purchased my first Koi . It was quite an experience for me as this was something new. Thru the years I have purchased some beautiful fish from Mac and he helped my husband and I when we built a new home and created our pond and and Mac gave us instructions on how it should be done. During the years he visited our fish when we needed a Doctor. Once he gave Mouth-to-mouth CPR. We were stunned and will never forget the experience my husband and daughter and myself had. It was something out of a movie. We still talk about it. He once did an autopsy on one of my koi and she had thousand of eggs in her that we did not know. Mac always had a new koi for me when he returned from a show and would make me a "DEAL" which I could not turn down. I loved driving down to his house to see his fabulous fish and all the new little ones he had in separate containers. It was hard to choose which one......like a kid in a toy shop. But I loved my trips to see him. They were special. One of my fond memories of Mac was if I brought people with me, he did not want them to speak. He only wanted to talk to me, not my husband or my friends. I was blessed to be a friend of Mac's and I will greatly miss him. He was always there when you needed help and that was sometimes often, hurricanes, etc. I am sad to say our mortality rate was not always great but the joy of communicating with your koi is always there. It is so soothing and relaxing and calming. My Grandchildren and all the neighbor children love to come see our fish and feed them if they are very careful!!! My Koi will miss their good friend, Mac!!. So will I. Kay Outlaw Neild

Your father was one of my favorite customers at Williams Florist. He would bring in pictures of his prize Koi fish. I so enjoyed our conversations, he was so interesting. He was always so proud to send the flowers from South Park to his fellow classmates. We will truly miss him. Our condolences to you all. Alli Meaux, Williams Florist

Mac installed my Koi pond several years ago at my home in Iowa, LA. He had drawn the plans years before that while we still lived in Lafayette. He was a very hard worker and once you were his friend, you were his friend forever. Tolene and I shared bromeliads with each other and enjoyed traveling to the Guild Shows to exhibit our plants. They were really fine people and my husband, Jim and I will miss them dearly.

We do not need to speculate on what heaven will be like. It is enough to know that we will be with Him.” William Barclay

I remember being a young freshly graduated high school kid with an interest in fish and being told that I needed to meet Mac McGreevy. Upon meeting him I was immediately obsessed with koi and water quality. I would wait until I though Mac had a new shipment of koi for sale to call him and was intimidated in doing so. He was gruff and abrupt but had a passion for learning and for koi. After several visits to his home to look at his stock, I was invited to go along with him to San Antonio to visit Water Garden Gems. That trip was a life changing moment. I was completely captivated by the koi and the technique of keeping them. I remember going home and reliving the trip to my parents. Mac made everything a learning experience and made the experience come to life. After that trip there were many ponds, pond expansions and trips. From Florida to California all the way to Japan we went in the search of koi and expanding the koi experience. I will never forget Mac's words as he dropped me off after one of our trips, "what have you learned". The teacher was always present with him, and he always made you yearn to learn more. My koi days were some of the most memorable days of my life. But during those times Mac was secretly teaching me life lessons that I will always remember and treasure. Unfortunately, the time came after college and establishing myself that we drifted apart. Not intentionally, but simply due to busy schedules. Fast forwarding twenty years, I can honestly say that Mac McGreevy was a huge part of my life that I will always treasure. He is part of the equation that has made me the person who I am today and I will always be thankful. I treasure the times I had with Mac and the memories that we made. I look forward to the day that we meet again, where I can see him walk over to me with his bouncy walk hollering "where have you been!". Rest easy my friend, I will miss you. Your legacy and knowledge will live on!
