Carol Marie Johnson Montroy, 89, of Port Arthur passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Cypress Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation in Port Arthur where she was a resident. Carol was born on September 24, 1920, in Port Arthur to Icye Hamilton Johnson and John Clemon Johnson. She had lived in Port Arthur all of her life. Carol attended Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio and worked for Southern Union Gas Company for many years before her retirement. It was there that she met her sweetheart and husband, George James Montroy, Jr. She was a longtime active member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Carol was a member of First Baptist Church in Groves and the Adult Sunday School Department. She and her husband also had a long volunteer association with the Port Cities Rescue Mission where he served as Chaplain for over twenty years. Survivors include her sister, Betty Jane Johnson Laymon, stepson, Dr. John D. Montroy, nephew, Richard Laymon, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. A gathering of friends and family will take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Services will be conducted by Dr. Joe Worley of First Baptist Church of Groves and assisted by David Bleakley of First Baptist Church of Groves at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Burial will take place in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Port Arthur. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church in Groves and the Port Cities Rescue Mission in Port Arthur. She and her family very much appreciated the compassionate care she received at Cypress Glen.
