Carolyn Driver

1942 ∼ 2024

Carolyn Driver

Carolyn Chesson Driver, peacefully departed this world on September 14, 2024, in Newton, Texas, at the age of 82. Born on August 10, 1942, in Port Arthur, Texas, Carolyn graced the lives of many with her kindness and dedication.

Carolyn's commitment to public service was notable, as she diligently served at City Hall in Port Neches before continuing her career as the Court Clerk and ultimately serving as the Police Chief Secretary for the Port Neches Police Department. She concluded her extensive career working in the Public Library in Port Neches, retiring from the City of Port Neches in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of service to her community.

Carolyn was not just defined by her career but also by her early years filled with joy and creativity. During her high school years, she participated as a member of the band and notably showcased her talent as a twirler. These experiences enriched her character and contributed to the vibrant spirit she carried throughout her life.

Raised in Port Acres, Texas, Carolyn was surrounded by a loving family, which included her mother Anna Bell, her step-father Percy Talbot, and her beloved sister Rhoda Nell Speed, who predeceased her. She was nurtured in a warm environment, accompanied by her devoted grandparents, aunts, uncles, and a multitude of cousins, all of whom contributed to the strong sense of community and belonging that marked her upbringing.

Carolyn is survived by her loving daughter, Darla Raines and her husband Ramon of Zavalla, Texas; her beloved son, Dean Cormier and his wife, Hannah of Lumberton, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Carson Raines and his wife, Morgan, along with Jude Cormier; and a great-grand daughter who is "on the way."

The family will host a visitation to honor Carolyn's memory on September 18, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, both taking place at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home,  2001 Nall St, Port Neches, Texas, 77651.

Carolyn Driver will be remembered as a devoted mother, a treasured grandmother, and a steadfast friend. Her legacy of love, service, and dedication to her family and community will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her remarkable life.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Darla and Dean, some of my best memories are of working with Carolyn at PNPD in our tiny cubicle. She and I shared the ups and downs in our lives, along with raising kids, caring for parents ... crying a little and laughing a lot about so many things, with never a cross word between us in all those years. May God grant you comfort and healing, knowing she's now at peace. Love, Sherry
