Carolyn Sue Kirkham, 75, of Nederland, Texas went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 19, 2021 surrounded by family. She lost a hard fought battle after open heart surgery at Baylor Scott and White Heart Hospital in Plano, Texas.
Sue was born August 26, 1945 in Erick, Oklahoma to Delmar "Bud" Lee and Wanda Marvene Skinner. Her family moved to Texas where Sue graduated from Pampa High School in 1963.
Sue married her high school sweetheart June 7, 1963. Sue and Donny were married 58 years. She was a resident of Dumas, Texas for 39 years. After retirement in 2003, they moved to Nederland, Texas to be closer to family.
She owned and operated Raggedy Anne and Andy's childrens' clothing store and later Sue's Ceramic Shop, both in Dumas, Texas. She loved riding motorcycles, family trips, shopping, and attending anything that her family was involved in. She was very talented when it came to arts and crafts. She poured, fired and painted ceramics and made floral arrangements. She spent many hours making jewelry both to sell and give away to those who couldn't afford it. Sue was known for her wonderful baking. Her family and friends looked forward to getting a special cake or dessert for birthdays and special occasions. Sue took great pride in caring for her family and always put her family first. She loved to spend time at the beach, renting the largest cabin she could find so everyone could stay together.
She leaves behind many family members and friends who will dearly miss her loving care, giving nature, strong-willed spirit and fiery disposition. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Janet Rockwell and her son, Kerry Don Kirkham.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Orval "Donny" Kirkham of Nederland, Texas; son, Kevin Kirkham and wife Elenka of Beaumont, Texas; daughter, Andrea Crocker and husband Paul of Nederland, Texas; sister, Sandy East and husband Ed of Celina, Texas; brother, Mike Chase and wife Beth of Walnut Creek, California; grandchildren, Tailor Golden-Kirkham, Abbi Crocker, and Caden Crocker; great granddaughter, Maddison Martinez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A gathering for family and friends will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Crossroads Fellowship Church, 2005 N. Peterson Street, Nederland, Texas, 77627. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Carl Durden officiating under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home Port Neches. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
