Cecil Joseph "Pop" Champagne, Jr., a cherished husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in Beaumont, Texas, at the age of 88. Born on March 1, 1936, he lived a life rich in love, warmth, and community.
Cecil, affectionately known as "Pop" to his family and friends, was the proud owner of Champagne's Bakery in Nederland, where he lovingly shared his passion for baking with all who visited. His culinary talents extended beyond the bakery, as he was known for preparing the best chicken on the grill, which became a treasured memory for many.
A devoted member of the Knights of Columbus Nederland Chapter #5145, Cecil's spirit of service and dedication to his community were hallmarks of his character. In addition to his commitment to his faith, Cecil enjoyed fishing and gardening, hobbies that brought him peace and joy throughout his life.
Cecil's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly his family. He was a loving husband to his wife of 51 years, Charlette Champagne, and a devoted father to his children: Kathryn Tredway of Beaumont; David Champagne and his wife Vicki of Alvin; Carl Champagne and his wife Sandra of Georgia; Janet LeBlanc and her husband Jerald of Beaumont; Svend Svendsen and his companion Julie Riggs of Nederland; Christina Poche of Port Neches and Brendan Cartwright of Port Arthur, who was more of a son to him than a grandchild. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom he adored fiercely.
Cecil is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Joseph Champagne, Sr. and Elda Weber Champagne, along with one sister, one brother, and one great-grandchild. Though he has departed this world, the impact of his love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
As we remember Cecil Joseph "Pop" Champagne, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, one of compassion, laughter, and an unwavering dedication to family and community. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
