Charles Curtis Ballew

April 9, 1925 — November 3, 2014

Charles Curtis Ballew was born in Winters, Texas, on April 9th, 1925. He went home to be with the Lord on November 3rd, 2014, while resting at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Groves.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fielder and Myrtle Ballew. Also, by his first wife Roberta Block Ballew, son Roger Ballew, and brother LeRoy Ballew.
He is survived by his wife Doris Ballew, his daughter Roxie Reedy and her husband Ronnie, son George Ballew, and brother Bobby Joe Ballew and wife Edie.
He had five grandchildren, Shane Reedy, Doug Reedy, Rhonda Reedy, Tyler Ballew and Mysti Ballew; as well as seven great grandchildren; Joshua, Morgan, McKenah, Alaina, Michael, Adison and Casen.
Charles served his country from 1943 to 1944 as a Private in the Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged. He was based out of Fort Bliss in San Antonio.
He worked at Ritter Lumber Company for over 25 years, and then retired with the Carpenters Local 502 in 1987.
Charles was a long time member of First Assembly of God in Port Neches where he taught Sunday School for many years. He also attended Magnolia Assembly of God late in his life. He served as Commander of American Legion Post 493 in Nederland for many years.
Charles was an avid gardener having been raised on a farm for most of his childhood. He could grow anything anywhere. He loved riding horses, especially his old horse Jeff, and rode in several rodeos. He was outdoorsman who loved boating and fast cars.
A Memorial Service for Charles will be 3 p.m., Thursday at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Pastor Kenneth Woolf, presiding. A gathering of Charles’ family and friends will be from 1 p.m. til service time, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, at a later date.
He was loved, and will be missed by his family.
