Charles Sherman Corley, 87, of Groves passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont. He was born on February 9, 1926 in Toro, Louisiana to David and Martha Jane Moore Corley. Sherman had lived in Groves since 1954 and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Toro Lodge #253 in Hornbeck, La. and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Galveston. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and recipient of the Purple Heart. Sherman was retired as a pipefitter from Texaco. A visitation for family and friends will be Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 26, 2013 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Travis Cox of Friendship Baptist Church in Groves, TX officiating. There will be a visitation Monday afternoon from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at Beech Grove Congregational Methodist Church in Anacoco, LA followed by a Masonic graveside service in Beech Groves Cemetery conducted by Toro Masonic Lodge #253 of Hornbeck, LA. Sherman is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gwendolyn Corley. He is survived by his daughter, Kristi Corley Wallace and husband, Danny of Groves, TX, two sons, Steve Corley and wife, Kathy of Groves, TX, and Brad Corley of Groves, TX, sister, Eunice Fitts of Groves, TX, five grandchildren, Luke Corley, Jacob Wallace, Caleb Wallace, Blake Corley and Will Corley, and one great grandson, Levi Corley.
