Charles “Charlie” Huckaby, 81, of Port Neches, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Harbor Hospice in Beaumont. Charlie was born on October 19, 1935 in Church Point, Louisiana to the late Hugh Huckaby and Gladys Nelams Huckaby. Charlie lived most of his life in the Port Acres and Port Neches Area. He graduated from Fannett High School and married Ruby in 1954. Charlie worked at Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur for 36 years, retiring in 1992 as an accountant. Charlie was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches where he served as Lecture and Usher. Also a member of the Port Neches Knights of Columbus Council 2461, where he called Bingo for many years and served on the kitchen committee. After retiring, Charlie loved traveling throughout the USA with his wife, Ruby and playing golf with his many friends at the Babe Zaharias Golf Corse in Port Arthur.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Ruby of Port Neches; daughter, Janice Huckaby Baillie and husband, Larry of Bonaire Netherlands Antilles; sons, Nick Huckaby and wife, Lynn of Nederland and Carl Huckaby and wife, Jeanine of The Woodlands; grandchildren, Misty Arnaud, Charlie Huckaby and wife, Kristen, Tyler Ishee, Lauren Hopper and husband, B J, Nathan Huckaby and Austin Ishee; great-grandchildren, Taylor Cates, Jaycee Collins, Slade Huckaby and Ava Huckaby. He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Huckaby Ishee; brother, E.J. Huckaby; sister, Joyce Hatcher.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland with Rev. Shane Baxter officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A gathering of the family and friends will be on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. to be prayed by the Port Neches Knights of Columbus at the funeral home.
