Charles H. O'Brien

Charles H. O'Brien, a cherished family man and dedicated pilot, passed away on January 15, 2025, at the V.A. Hospice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on October 8, 1928, in Galveston, Texas, and had a storied life marked by service and commitment to his loved ones.

A proud veteran, Charles served in the United States Marine Corps where he retired with the rank of Major, upholding the values of duty and honor. His career as a pilot reflected his passion for aviation and his dedication to serving his country. Throughout his life, he embodied professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast work ethic, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Charles was married to his beloved wife, Willie Belle O'Brien, for 69 wonderful years. Together, they created a loving home filled with warmth and laughter. Charles is survived by his son, Charles O’Brien, Jr. from Mesa, Arizona; his daughter, Kathy Luce, and her husband, Elton, of Champion, Michigan; his daughter, Patti Bobbitt, and her husband, Royce, of Nederland, Texas; and his daughter, Brenda Gabaldon of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was a proud grandfather to twelve grandchildren: Shannon, Jason, Trey, Michael, Ryan, Kris, Rocky, Katie, Kristin, Torey, Jonathan and Cory.  Additionally, he was proud to have fourteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, who will continue to carry his legacy forward.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Belle O'Brien; his parents, Charles Chennault O'Brien and Florence Evelyn Hill; his son, Michael O'Brien, Sr.; his son-in-law, Benny Gabaldon; his brother, Henry Clausen, Sr.; his sisters, Grace Reeves and Olive Jo Friday; and his grandson, Jonathan O'Brien. Each of these individuals held a special place in his heart.

Visitation will be held on January 25, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM at 5601 39th St, Groves, Texas, 77619. Charles H. O'Brien’s legacy of love and dedication to family will forever be remembered in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
