Charles David Wallace

1945 ∼ 2024

Charles David Wallace

Charles David Wallace, known affectionately as "Charlie," peacefully passed away in Nederland, Texas, on July 27, 2024. His unwavering spirit and remarkable contributions to his community will always be remembered.

Born in Andrews, Texas, on August 7, 1945, Charlie led a life filled with passion and dedication. He was a Football Coach and Retired Teacher from Port Neches - Groves High School, where he not only educated minds but also inspired countless young individuals through his coaching in various sports. His commitment to mentoring extended beyond the field as he instilled values of teamwork and resilience in all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Charlie embodied true sportsmanship as a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. His enthusiasm for sports brought joy to those around him and created lasting memories for many.

Among his most cherished accomplishments was his membership in the Groves Masonic Lodge #1315. This affiliation showcased his commitment to service and fraternal values that defined his character.

Outside of the sporting realm, Charlie was deeply involved in the fabric of his community. As a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Groves, he served as a Prayer Warrior, offering solace and strength to those in need. His faith was a guiding light that brought comfort to many during times of hardship.

He was proud of many things in his personal life. One thing was that he had a well-kept yard that he took much pride in. When others complimented on how neat it was, it would make his day. He was also very proud of his grandkids and great-grandkids. He never missed an opportunity to share their accomplishments or attend any of their various extracurricular activities.

Charles will be deeply missed by his surviving family: his beloved wife of 61 years, Bonnie Wallace; daughter, Angie Macon and her husband, Mitchell of Nederland; son, David Wallace and his wife, Sara of Port Neches; four grandchildren; Hannah Zahradnik and husband, Adam, Callie Trevino and husband, Trevor, Zach Macon, and Carson Wallace; along with four great-grandchildren; Micah, Ava, Charlee, and Josie. He is also survived by his brothers Johnny Wallace and Ronny Wallace.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Harles Henry and Ruth Pace Wallace, and his great-grandson Nolan Paul Zahradnik.

In remembrance of Charles' life well-lived, a Visitation will take place at the First Baptist Church in Groves on July 31st starting at 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. These services will honor a man whose influence reached far beyond the sidelines and whose memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace knowing that his legacy continues through the lives he touched so profoundly.

When Charlie came to coach at PNG his locker was next to mine. We found out that our Grandfather’s were both from the same small town in north Texas. We called each other “Cuz” from then on. What a great man I had the pleasure to work with. Heaven gained a true Saint! Rest in peace Charlie!

I grew up a couple of blocks from Charlie in Groves. He was a year ahead of me in school but he was a good friend. Many of the students he coached and taught probably did not realize he was an all-state running back at PN-G in the 1960s. I last talked to him at a PNG/Vidor in 1998 when I was the line judge for the officiating crew and he was a coach. Even though we had not seen each other for a long time, I will miss him. My condolences to Bonnie, Johnny, Ronny and the rest of the family.

Man, this hits me hard. I have known Coach Wallace as a kid growing up in Groves. Never got to coach with him, but did coach at the same time down in Golden Triangle in the 90s. And we shared a diehard love of the Dallas Cowboys! Saw him and David several times at the old Texas Stadium. Also had a *few* cold beers with Coach back in the day! Condolences to his family.
