Charlotte Lawson Jones

1939 ∼ 2020

Charlotte Lawson Jones, 81, of Groves, Texas passed away Saturday May 16, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 15, 1939 in Port Arthur, Texas to Lamar Lawson, Sr. and Lillie Seward Lawson. Charlotte was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Groves. Charlotte retired as a banker from Sabine Bank after 30 years of service. A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Grace Baptist Church in Groves with a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Phil Sigman officiating. Charlotte is survived by her daughter, Wendi Christian and husband Blaine of Groves, two sons, Rory Jones and wife Cathy of Groves and Jon Jones and wife Darla of Port Arthur, sisters, Faye Weber and husband Pat of Port Arthur and Susan McAdams and husband Bob of Lantana, FL., brothers, Lamar Lawson, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of San Antonio and Jim Lawson and wife Paula of Longview, eight grandchildren, Jessica Valka and husband Shawn, Julia Jones, Haleigh Jones, Hannah Jones, Holly Jones, Madeline Amburg, Morgan Christian, and Jackson Christian and four great grandchildren, Brynley Valka, Eli Valka, Bentley Jones and Breighlyn Jones; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends! Charlotte was the matriarch of the family instilling Christian Values and was influential in leading us to follow Christ. She was a strong single mom raising three wild teenagers and wanted her children to be strong as well. She encouraged us to be the best we could be and not settle for anything less. She wanted us to do better than she did and wanted us all to go to college. She loved her grandkids and great grandkids. They were her favorites. She always had snacks and goodies for them when they visited. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Church volunteer and had a love for Christ. At the end of her journey here on earth, she met several people in different facilities she was in and her children believe thats why she was still here on earth because she needed to finish her journey sharing Christ. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to: Grace Baptist Church, 3417 Berry, Groves, Texas 77619.
