Cheryl Marie Puntes, 76, of Bridge City, Texas passed away Saturday, August 1, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 18, 1944 in Port Arthur, Texas to Leslie Wayne Say and Bernice Glenn Say. Cheryl had lived in Bridge City for 51 years and was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Cheryl graduated from Port Neches Groves High School in 1962 and Lamar University in 1966. She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, a drum major at PNG and a twirler at Lamar. She retired as a teacher from Bridge City Independent School District in 2000 and taught at Sims Elementary and Bridge City Intermediate. In retirement, Cheryl studied wine and became a Level 1 sommelier. Cheryl was a member of the Business and Professional Womens Organization, the Orange Garden Club and the Texas State Teachers Association. She was also an avid participant in wine tasting groups in Orange County, Jefferson County, and Humble. A visitation for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Mark Bunch officiating. Cheryl is survived by her husband of 54 years, Robert "Bob" Puntes of Bridge City, Texas, two daughters, Paula Puntes Richey of Bridge City, Texas and Robin Ankeny and husband Jeff of Dallas, Texas, brother, Michael Say and wife Elaine of Humble, Texas, and two grandchildren, Jackson Ankeny and Luke Ankeny. She is also survived by sister-in-laws, Alicia Holder, Lucy Puntes, Mary Moss and Debbie Puntes and ten nieces and nephews. Cheryl was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make memorial contributions may send them to: M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210, mdanderson.org/gifts or St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1155 W. Roundbunch Road, Bridge City, Texas 77630. A Celebration of Life will, also, be planned in the future when we can do so safely.

Bobby, Paula, and Robin, I often think of my years that I taught and coached at BC and the times we spent together as being some of the best times of my life. I was so sorry to read of Cheryl's passing. I know how long and how bravely she fought. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

So sorry to read of Mrs. Puntes' passing. I did my student teaching under her, and I have always looked back on that time fondly. I know she will be missed by many. Love and Prayers to all of the family.

Bobby, Robin and Paula, I'm so very sad to read of Cheryl's passing. I admired her grace and her ever-ready smile. She was a wonderful teacher and a great inspiration to all who knew her. This time is so hard on families who lose loved ones but can't have a traditional funeral service. I'm still waiting to have one for my husband Bob. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you navigate these uncertain days. Our faith gives us great comfort.

we are so very sorry for your loss Our oldest son Brad basically stayed at the Punteses house while in high school. He loved Cheryl and the whole family like his own. I know he will be sad when he hears of her passing as we all are. Prayers are with you all. The Eddie Ash Family.
