A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life and memory of Dallas Tucker will be held Monday, May 17th, 2010, at 6:00p.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Pastor Alan Van Hooser of First United Methodist Church in Groves and Hospice Chaplain Rick Morales will be performing the memorial service. Dallas was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He gave of himself selflessly and was a source of comfort and strength not only to his family but his many friends as well. He enjoyed working in his garden, hunting, carpentry work, C.B. Radios, playing his organ and singing, playing dominos and cards, making people laugh and smile, but mostly loved spending time with his wife of 54 years-"the love of his life"- fishing in their red scooter in their favorite spot in the marsh. Dallas Tucker, 89, of Groves, died Wednesday, May 12th, 2010, at St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas surrounded by his loving family. All his childhood and young adulthood were spent in Stuart Place Area at Harlingen, Texas. He worked for American Optical Company in Harlingen. His career was interrupted for 3 ½ years at the outbreak of World War II when he enlisted in the Army and served bravely in the European Theater. He transferred to Port Arthur as Manager of American Optical in 1950. In 1952, Dallas joined Dr. Frank Keith where he operated the laboratory as his optician for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of VFW Post 2775 in Orange, Texas. He married the former Bobbye Slaughter of Harlingen in 1952. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife, Bobbye Tucker. He is survived by his four children: son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Linda Tucker of Bridge City, Texas; daughters and son-in-laws, Jo and Albert Marcontell of Orange, Texas; Julie and James Dabney of Port Neches, Texas and Joni and Tim Johnson of Lufkin, Texas. Also seven grandchildren: Cindy Lynne Tucker, Joseph Cobb Tucker, Kristin Begnaud, Kelsi Strahan, Kevin English, David Johnson and Dylan Johnson; and four great grandchildren: Tabitha and Taylor Holste, Lindsey Hare and Hayden Ballard. Dallas is also survived by a sister, Margarett Krafka of Harlingen, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
