Daniel "Danny" Wayne Delahoussaye

1947 ∼ 2021

Daniel Wayne Delahoussaye, 73, of Nederland, beheld the face of the One who saved him on Thursday, February 4, 2021. He was born July 30, 1947, in Beaumont to the late James Daniel Delahoussaye and Margueriete Slayton Delahoussaye.

Danny was a lifelong resident of Nederland. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1965 and attended Lamar Institute of Technology. Danny served 2 years in the United States Army, devoting himself to his country through a tour in Germany. He worked 13 years at Texaco Refinery and 30 years at ExxonMobil, where he formed many special bonds with co-workers that carried on through retirement.

Danny enjoyed charity sporting clays, fishing and hunting. But what he was best known for was his Christ-like love. Whether treating someone to Starbucks, playing with his nieces and nephews, offering a big warm hug, or countless other acts of service, Danny lived and loved in a way that pointed other to Jesus. To Danny, family was not a statement of relationship; it was a matter of the heart, and his heart was overflowing.

Danny is survived by his childhood sweetheart and soul mate, Earlyne Glaze Delahoussaye, his wife of 49 years with whom he shared his heart and a beautiful life. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon Delahoussaye, as well as 16 nieces and nephews, 19 great nieces and nephews and a host of friends who he loved like family. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Richard Delahoussaye.

An outdoor graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. Military honors will be provided by the Southeast Texas Veteran’s Service Group. Serving as pallbearers are Lance Howell, Jared Deupree, Travis Tallant, Josh Tallant, Ryan Thibodeaux, and Larry Howard. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Andrew Howell, Frankie Domino and Titus Tallant.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Promised Ministries, PO Box 511, Nederland, or LIT Shoot-Out Scholarship Endowment, PO Box 10085, Beaumont.

Heartache is shadowed by hope because we know that Daniel Wayne Delahoussaye heard his father say, “Well done good and faithful servant,” and oh what a glorious day for him that was!

Earlyne, you and Danny were precious to us. Your care of and friendship with our Aunt Louise was a special blessing to her and to our family. Countless times we would hear of the things you did for her and Charles. We were blessed to have Danny give the service and tribute for Louise at her burial. It was so hard to now hear of his passing. You have our hearts with you at this time. We know God will carry you through. With all our love, Wayne and Betty Heugatter

Hard to believe that Danny has passed. I worked with him at ExxonMobil and he was always happy, glad to see you and had boundless energy. I will certainly pray for those closest to him. Such a terrible loss for all.

Rest in Peace my friend. You were needed in Heaven but you will be missed.

I owe Danny more than I can ever say. Danny didnt see my mother one morning So he took it upon himself to go over and check on her. Not knowing that she had fallen and fractured her hip. He was able to get into the house and call an ambulance. By doing what he did, he saved my mother from going through terrible pain and suffering. And might just have saved her life. All I can say is, WHAT A GREAT MAN. John Sain
Reagan Keck February 9, 2021
If ever the statement that friends become family applied— “DannyBoy & Dearlene” will always be very much a part of this family. Sometimes a son, brother, uncle, surrogate father, father-in-law, grandfather, friend and always a servant. The kindest & most gentle man I’ve ever known. His smile infections, his laugh made you giggle, his hugs were the very best, always wearing a new cologne Earlene had found, he could tease and tell the funniest secrets, and when he talked about Jesus—we’d end up crying. And BRAG about those nieces & nephews who had hung the moon in his life. With beaming pride he’d talk about each of you and how moved his life was because of you. But mostly we all marveled at his love for Earlene. His twinkling eyes of love for his bride. He set that bar so high. I know all 3 Keck “boys” took note, and had that example because of him. Not too long ago he was teasing me as we walked through our house showing him some renovations & Earlene getting “any new ideas”. I showed him the sitting room Scott had build for me, and my prayer closet...he walked in, turned around and began to cry. He hugged me so tight and said “I am so proud of you”. Because he watched all these years...he watched me fall in love with Jesus. We’d share our favorite coffee with each other, whatever was the latest darkest roast...what I wouldn’t give for a cup of coffee and a chat one more time with him. This picture comes to mind whenever think of DannyBoy & “Derlene” (Hannah Grace named her that). Them loving our babies...present, invested, attentive, wanting to bless. Scott said he couldn’t remember his life without them, neither can our children...and for nearly 26 years neither can I. I can see him 20 years ago pushing PawPaw in his wheel chair in Saldo, and later Grandma. I can see him hunting hearts for Earlene, and taking out our shopping bags to the car. And driving us around like a chauffeur. I can also see him in peace, no sickness in his body, no more fighting this horrid virus. Peace, and Jesus. If ever anyone would be able to say: “I’ll be the first one on the right when you get to Heaven”-it’s him. :hearts:

I worked with Danny for many years at Mobil ~ ExxonMobil. Although we were co-workers we were also friends. It was easy for Danny to be a friend with anyone. He had that unique smile almost every time you saw him and he wasn't bashful when talking about the Lord and his life as a Christian Believer. Danny will be missed. We are praying for all the family. I met Danny through our mutual friend, Larry Howard. We frequently saw each other at church. He was a Godly man and true example of a Christian. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed. Syble and I offer prayers of comfort to Earlyne and family. Rest in peace, my friend.

Danny and me shared the same birthday so we always went out together to celebrate. Tom & me and Danny & Earlyne shared many adventures over the years and had so much fun. I will always be grateful for times they visited Tom at MD Anderson while he was sick. They drove over every week to cheer him up and Earlyne always brought him a bowl of cereal and milk, it was a joke between Tom and her about how she never cooked and that was the only thing she knew how to fix. Danny will be missed by so many, he had such an impact on so many people. He always showed God’s love to everyone. I know you and Tom are having a great time now. Love and miss you.

We lost one of the greatest men I have ever known this week.... and, what has been so evident in these past days is how much his love and impact on others is so incredibly far reaching. Danny loved like no other, a true Angel on earth, put on this earth to serve God and others, which is exactly what he did. And as mom said this week, Jesus’ first words to Danny will be “well done my good and faithful servant.” He and Auntie have always loved me like their own and my girls like their own. They embraced my husband, grandmothers, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends— he and Auntie made them all feel loved , taken care of, and special. If you knew Danny at all, you know exactly what I mean. He and Auntie were there the days before Madeline was born and were there in the hospital when she made her entrance into this world. They came as quickly as possible to meet Anna when she was born. He and Auntie celebrated every special event with us and have made us feel just as loved from a distance for 11 years. The last time I saw and spoke to him was on a Zoom call in celebration of Madeline’s high school graduation. When I was a freshman at Baylor, he and Auntie sat on the steps in front of my dorm for hours knowing I would get there eventually just to surprise me and make sure I felt loved during that first year away from home. He loved and cared for MawMaw as his very own. Consistently, for years. He never visited her without bringing her favorite Starbucks latte, and when we were there, we all got our personal favorites. He rescued her by boat and made sure she was taken care of when her nursing home flooded during the hurricane. He sat by her side and fed her ice cream when she couldn’t eat anything else after she recovered from a stroke that we felt may be the end. The way he loved Auntie; he showed us all what true love looks like. The one thing he would want is to make sure Auntie was cared for, and Danny, you can rest knowing that Auntie will be surrounded by love and care from all of us. There has never been and never will be another Dannyboy, and I can’t imagine a world without him in it. But I am so incredibly grateful for and cling to his example and legacy. He has made us all better. We will miss him so much.

We were so saddened to hear of Danny’s passing. We prayed almost daily for his healing, but know that God’s ways are not always our ways. Danny is in a wonderful place now, a place with no sorrow and no troubles. Christ said he would leave to prepare a place for us and that in his father’s house there are many mansions. (John 14:2) Danny is now there in the presence of Jesus. Danny was a good friend of many and we will miss him. David and Betty Couch

Dear Earlyne, Our hearts are truly broken. It’s a sad day. We lost one of our dearest friends on this earth, Daniel Wayne. You and Danny have been a big part of our family for 54 years. Ya'll were our witnesses at our wedding in 2017. Danny created an instantaneous friendship with Mac from the moment he meet Mac, and I was so thankful for that. Mac loved Danny as a true friend and brother in Christ. Daniel, we prayed for you to be healed, but God had other plans for you. We certainly weren’t ready for you to leave but always knew the Lord could call you home. I’m so thankful you are no longer in any pain and now in the loving arms of our Savior. We love you Danny & will see you one of these days. You will be greatly missed by our families.:heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament:️:revolving_hearts::pray::skin-tone-2::pray::skin-tone-2::pray::skin-tone-2::pray::skin-tone-2:

Danny and I worked together on fund raisers for The American Heart Association and more recently for Lamar Institute of Technology. Always greeted me with a big smile and a warm hug. What do we need to do Ms Jean. Not only for these two organizations but Danny was first in line wherever he was needed. I will miss this gut but he will be remembered by all of us.

I am so thankful that God allowed Danny & Earlene to be a part of our lives while we served at Hillcrest Baptist Church in the 90’s. Danny was a great friend to our family. He was so very kind and generous. I was able to experience an event in Washington DC with Promise Keepers only because of his generosity. Even after we moved to Orange he and Earlene continued to love and spoil us when we would visit. We are better people because Danny loved on us. Thank You Lord for giving this earth Danny Boy!! We love you Earlene!! Tim, Seana, Scott & Hailee Sawyer; Patrick & Natalie Brown.
