Darrell “Buddy” Hicks Jr., 61, of Port Neches, Texas passed away on December 16, 2021, at Kindred Medical Center Hospital in Houston, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A Eulogy and Prayer will be read at 5:00 p.m.

Born in Port Arthur, Texas, on August 7, 1960, he was the son of Darrell Gene Hicks Sr. and Patricia Kavanagh Hicks. Buddy was a lifelong area resident and lived in Port Neches for the last 36 years. He worked as an operations manager at Seabulk. Buddy loved family, friends, camping, bass fishing, hunting and golf.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Hicks; sons, Tracy Hicks and wife Karla of Groves and Bradley Hicks and wife Danielle of Pleasanton, California; three grandchildren, Jaiden Hicks, Ayden Hicks and Ayla Hicks; sisters, Terri Cuccio and husband Tony of Leander, Tammy Case and husband Dave of Round Rock, Trish Abshier and husband Scott of Raywood; brothers, Mike Hicks and wife Becky of Dallas and Ronnie Hicks and wife Kay of Groves; aunts, Mary Anne Hayes of Chilton and Molly Kavanagh of Groves and many cousins

I knew buddy for 22 years out here on the tugs. Je was a man that genuinely cared for his crews, he was always first to take care of our family's. They broke the mold with him. Ill always remember sitting in his office talking fishing and hunting. Remembering the old sabine days and just having good conversations. My last memory was a phone call about a up coming job, and how my kids were doing. Ill always miss you my friend.

I have known Buddy most of my life. I met him when my ex husband was in the Sabine Area Propeller Club. He always had a smile on his face. We crossed paths again when I went to work for Market Basket and he used us for the groceries on the Seabulk boats. We have worked together many years and I am grateful to have known him. I worked with Buddy for many years. He was so proud of his wife and his kids and grandkids. He was such a good example of what a good son was. Before he came into the office he always went to check on his parents. Buddy set good examples for all of us. And he lived and breathed Seabulk. He was most proud of that! Mike, Terri, Ronnie, Tammie, and Tricia, and families, It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing Buddy was a special part of a well lived life. I can remember seeing Buddy, Ronnie, and Ted(a neighbor)playing tag or hide and go seek. In later years, I would run into him at PN-G games-always a smile on his face.
