David Odell Pool

Services for David Odell Pool, 94, will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., at Friendship Baptist Church, 3417 Berry Avenue, Groves, TX with Brother Dennis Whitmire officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, 101 Block Street; Port Neches, TX under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, TX. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, one hour prior to the service at Friendship Baptist Church in Groves. In 2 Corinthians 5, God's Word assures believers that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. David Odell Pool went to be with Jesus on January 3, 2016. He was born to CR Pool and Naomi Wagstaff Pool on October 20, 192l in Soda, TX. He married the love of his life, Nelda Joy Jones Pool on July 4th, 1947, at Zion Hill Baptist Church near Henderson, TX. He is a veteran of World War II and retired from Gulf Oil Company. He was a Deacon and early member of Friendship Baptist Church. Odell was raised in the woods of East Texas where he learned to hunt and fish. His love for the outdoors stayed with him his entire life. His skills were passed on to family and friends. He always claimed his trigger finger begin to itch with the first cold snap of fall. Odell was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Lois Wilson Hughes, two brothers, Ulrich Frank Pool, Otis Robert Pool, and daughter, Feta Joy Howard. Odell is survived by his wife, Nelda, of 68 years of Henderson, TX; son, Jack Pool and wife Carole of Tyler, TX; four grandchildren, Neil Carlson and wife Angel of Austin, TX, Ryan Howard of Groves, TX, Brandi Pool and Juli Lull-Pool and husband Noah, and two great-grandchildren, Finn and Mina, all of Boise, ID. Pallbearers will be Neil Carlson, Ryan Howard, Jerry Zimmerman, David Burks, Jeff Stanley and Randy Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Friendship Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 3417 Berry Avenue, Groves, TX 77619.
