Delbert Spell, Sr., 94, of Nederland, Texas passed away at his home in Nederland on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Delbert was born on February 6, 1928 in Crowley, Louisiana to the late Offord Spell and Maggie Stakes Spell.

Delbert was a man of integrity with an incredible work ethic. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps and received an honorable discharge on September 25, 1947. Delbert worked as a master plumber and was the owner and operator of Nederland Plumbing Company for forty-five years, a business he started in his garage with his friend Harry Morgan. He enjoyed hunting for duck and dove and was an avid Nederland Bulldog fan to say the least. All who had the pleasure of spending time with Delbert were imprinted with the lasting memory of his ever-present smile and warm sense of humor, which he maintained until his last days, and often left his company with a Dum-Dum sucker, peppermint, or pocket-sized flashlight as a parting gift. Delbert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather whose warm smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew him.

Those left behind to cherish Delbert’s memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Joyce Spell; his sons, Delbert Spell, Jr. and his wife, Sharlyn, Mike Spell and his wife, Cheryl, Johnny Spell and his wife, Lorri; his grandchildren, Brandon Spell and his wife, Lauren, Kris Spell and his wife, Heather, Bryan Spell and his wife, Haley, Buffie Spell, Kelli Blanchard and her husband, Troy, Lauren Attaway and her husband, Chris, Megan Coblentz and her husband, David; his great grandchildren, Tyler Spell and his wife, Hillary, Brady Spell, Kamryn Spell, Sullivan Spell, Campbell Spell, Emmalyn Spell, Brooke Carrell, Griffen Spell, Jude Spell, ZoeClaire Spell, AnneMarie Spell, Anthony Spell, Ayden Spell, Tucker Spell; his great great granddaughter, Clara Joyce Spell; and one great great grandchild on the way.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents; and his sibling, Cornelius Spell, Pearlie Hoffpauir, Richard Spell, Sybil Spell, and Patsey Solar.

A gathering of family and friends for a visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas. A funeral service for Delbert will immediately follow the visitation and will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Melancon’s. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
