Della Marie “Cookie” Edgerly of Port Acres, Texas passed away Saturday April 11, 2015 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas. Her husband of forty-two years was by her side holding her hand as the Lord called her home.

Della was born December 7, 1948 to Claude & Lorena Richard. She graduated from Stephen F Austin High School, and later from the Lamar School of Cosmetology. She worked for many years as a hairdresser and then stayed home to raise her two children. She returned to work as a teacher’s aide for Saint Catherine of Sienna Catholic School for many years before beginning the job of a lifetime. She began working as the Secretary of St. Therese the Little Flower of Jesus Catholic Church in Port Acres. It was through this job that she touched many lives, and found and shared her passion serving the Lord. She was a Eucharistic minister, an active member of the A.C.T.S community serving on several ACTS retreats, and helped organize and share her talents at the numerous activities with the church. She was a very talented decorator, loved spending time with friends, dancing and was the life of any party. She helped everyone in need that she could, and loved her family with all of her being. She has touched and changed many lives and will forever be remembered, loved, and missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Lorena Richard and several beloved family members.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James “Boogie” Edgerly; her children, Cory Edgerly and his wife Katie, and Jamie Harris and her husband Danny all from Port Acres; sisters, Claudia Smith, Julie Stutes (Derryl), Tammy Maturin (Randy); brother Numa “Butch” Richard (Linda); grandchildren, Kloie, Carley, & Colton; with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

A gathering for family and friends will be held at Little Flower Church on Monday April 13 with a Visitation from 5-8 and a rosary being recited at 6:00. A mass of Christian burial will be at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church on April 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial at Memory Gardens. A reception to follow at the Little Flower Parish Hall.
