Don Samuel Collida, Sr., age of 88 of Port Neches, Texas passed away April 10, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Don was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose presence brought joy to all those around him.
Don was born on April 28, 1935, in Port Arthur, Texas, Don led a remarkable life filled with dedication and passion. He graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1953 where he also showcased his talent for baseball. In 1958, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Lamar University, paving the way for a successful career.
Don dedicated forty-four years of his life as an electrical engineer at Gulf Oil/Chevron Refinery. His commitment to his profession was evident through his membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was also a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.
Aside from his professional accomplishments, Don will be remembered for his love of sports. He played fast-pitch softball for the Port Arthur City Men's Softball League for many years and was a devoted fan of Port Neches Groves baseball and football teams. His enthusiasm for sports extended to supporting his grandchildren in every sporting event they participated in – a true testament to his unwavering support and love for family.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Collida and mother, Lena Collida Linscomb. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Anna L. Collida, their children, Donna Fancher and husband Jim of Baker, Louisiana; Pam Todd of Port Neches, Texas; Donnie Collida and wife Kim of Montgomery, Texas; Becky Dennis and husband David of Houston, Texas; Debbie DeLuna and husband Paul of Orangefield, Texas; Melissa Vidrine and husband Craig of Groves, Texas; as well as 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Joe Collida.
Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Collida are his grandsons, Kevin Fancher, Colby Todd, Corey Todd, Mitchell Todd, Aaron DeLuna, Kegan DeLuna, Nathan Vidrine, Jaxon Vidrine, and Chad Miguez.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, April 14, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 5:00 p.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches; 2001 Nall Street, Port Neches, Texas 77651. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches. Interment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
