A Life Remembered

Obituary

Don Allen Edgerly, age 88, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, and friendship. A beloved member of the community, Don was known to nearly everyone as “Uncle Don,” a reflection of the kindness, warmth, and generosity he shared throughout his life.

Don retired from the City of Port Arthur at the age of 65 after many years of dedicated service. He was a devout Catholic and faithfully served as an usher and Eucharistic minister at St. Charles Catholic Church for many years. An avid bowler, Don enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships he built through the sport and was a familiar face in the local bowling community.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Edgerly, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.

Don will be remembered for his gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and the positive impact he had on all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of family, friends, and the many lives he touched.

My aunt Margaret Ann and uncle Don were the best. As a child both of them took my siblings and I on excursions like their own children. They lived a wonderful life together. They also taught me a lot about life. In my early twenties and thirties I had weekly conversations with them about life. They seemed to have life figured out more than most people in my life. She would give me advice and uncle Don would always have something witty to say. He would generally say “yea look what she has done to me, can’t go wrong “. He was a true dude he talked it walked it and lived it. Very blessed to have had him in my life and he is already dearly missed. Love you uncle Don till we meet again.

Uncle Don was the best! He would say on the phone, “How’s my favorite nephew!” and I would say, “I’m good. Hows my favorite uncle?” I suspect he had this exchange with his other nephews and friends, but I didn’t care. He made me smile and feel special and I loved him. See you soon Uncle Don.

Uncle Don & Aunt Margetann gave us childhood memories and experiences we otherwise would not have had. Weather going on trips to Astroworld or just to staying the weekends. And their family dog, Tip! They Always made us feel special. Great examples of Love, family and humanity that will be missed, but will live in our memories forever!

Being an across the street neighbor with Don was a great gift. He always smiled and wanted me to come and sit with him in his garage. A few years ago we started talking about his bowling career and found out that we had over 20 mutual friends. What a wonderful man he was. He will be greatly missed, but we will all be together again someday. Rest in peace my friend.
