Donald R. Davis, 85, of Nederland, Texas passed away on September 5, 2017 at his residence surrounded by friends and family. Donald was born on August 19, 1932 in Dawson, Texas to the late Annie Lois Chunn Davis and Edmond Maurice Davis.
Donald graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1951 and then served his country in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Nuremburg, Germany. He worked for the Texaco Company (Texaco) for over 44 years and retired as a General Forman in the T&I Department.
Donald loved to fish, hunt and play music. He played guitar with the Cajun Country Classic’s Band for 17 years. He played for nursing homes, retirement homes, rodeos, birthdays, anniversaries, programs to raise money for charities, Mardi Gras parades in both Port Arthur, Texas and Eunice, Louisiana; and he also accompanied the Cajun Choir. Donald was also a dedicated member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Nederland.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Dolores “Dolly” Davis; daughters, Janice Clark and husband, Hiram of Orange, Texas, Marga Jennings and husband, Jay of Port Neches, Texas; grandchildren, Stacy Lynn Clark of San Antonio, H.K. Clark III and wife, Heather of Bridge City, Chris Domec and wife, Kacie of Bridge City, Justin Domec and wife, Shawna of Port Neches and Logan Domec of Port Neches; great-grandchildren, Camden and Cambrie Clark, Jace, Klayton, Addyson and Payton Domec; half-sisters, Judi Davis Sackett of San Antonio, Cathi Brandon of San Antonio and Linda Davis Fitzpatrick of Wilmington, New York.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his half-brother, Edmond Davis; his grandparents who raised him, Will and Pearl Davis; and also his step-mother, Myrtle Kay Davis.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Melancon’s Funeral Home in Nederland. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2017 also at the funeral home with Father Jaison Jacobs, officiant. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial park in Groves. Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the St. Charles Catholic Church Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
