Donald T. Schnell, 74, of Groves, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 at his residence. Donald was born October 17, 1937 in Houston, TX and was a longtime resident of the area. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Lamar University. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany. He and his wife, Linda Gayle, were married for 51 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Nederland, TX. He retired from Huntsman Chemical Company in 1998 after 40 years of service. Don was currently teaching at Lamar Institute of Technology as an instructor. Don was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Marcella and James Schnell and his father, Thomas Zakem. He is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Carole Schnell, daughter, Janice Gremillion and husband, Gene, and grandchildren Kristin and Ryan Kelley all of Groves; Mindy Gremillion and Brandon Gremillion and wife, Erica all of Austin, TX. He is also survived by three brothers, Jeff Schnell and wife, Brenda of Houston; Greg Schnell and wife, Jane, of Sugar Land; and Buddy Schnell and wife, Mary Kaye of The Woodlands; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 104 N. 13th Street, Nederland, TX followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., with Reverend Malcolm Monroe and Reverend Toney Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 905, Nederland, TX 77627.

Great guy, great personality. Always positive. He loved to teach and loved his students. Every time I came across one of his past students they always asked me how he was doing. Each one of those students would tell me how much he cared, helped and encouraged them to do their best and be their best. He will be missed but never forgotten.

I WORKED WITH DON FOR MANY YEARS AT JEFFERSON AND THE TEXACO ORGANIZATIONS.IT WAS A PLEASURE TO KNOW AND WORK TOGETHER WITH HIM AS A GOOD CHRISTIAN SOLDIER FOR YEARS. HE WAS GOOD TO WORK WITH IN MANY TRYING TIMES.MAY GOD NOW BLESS HIS FAMILY,COMFORT THEM AND GIVE THEM STRENGHT IN THE YEARS AHEAD.

Don was always a pleasure to work with...we both worked at Texaco Chemical for many years. His nickname to coworkers was "Deets." His favorite song as I recall, "Linda On My Mind." Love ya buddy. Sorry that I'll miss the services.

Schnell was shift supervisor and good to work with in the Lab. He took his kids to our beach house and always cleaned it up so well! He has a good reputation with me.

Having lost a truly great person is sad, but knowing he is with the greatest person of all is wonderful. It's was nice to know Don for the short time that we did. Everyone passes your life for a reason and for Don to have passed ours was a true blessing. We will never forget Don and one day we hope to be re-joined with him in our blessed heaven.
