Dorcas Byrd, 91, of Groves, Texas passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur. Dorcas was born November 15, 1921 in Dillsboro, North Carolina to Frank Jacobs and Mattie Snyder Jacobs. She was a resident of Groves for 63 years and member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. Byrd; three sisters and three brothers. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Lindenmayer and husband, George of Seattle, WA; sons, Larry Byrd of Groves, TX , Gary Byrd and wife, Darlene of Fannett, TX; sister, Mary Lou Henson and husband, Bob of Asheville, NC; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend Travis Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
