Doris Babcock Byrd of Port Neches passed away September 21, 2010 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her daughter Virginia, son Roy, her husband Roy W. Byrd, parents Dr. Levis C. Babcock and Simone de Mauret N'Olivier and sister Sonia Hughes. Doris is survived by her three children Brenda White of Las Vegas, Robert Byrd of Port Neches and James Byrd of Beaumont, grandchildren, Patrick, Dylan, and Cameron Byrd, Alexandra and John White, great grandchild, Joseph Meteer. Doris grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She loved ballet, acrobatics, piano and swimming. She graduated from Academia del Perpetuo Socorro, attended the University of Puerto Rico, taught French and Spanish to students at the School of Languages, and taught typing and shorthand. In 1944, she married Roy and they moved to Waco, TX. Six years later, they moved to Beaumont then Port Neches in 1952. Doris studied in Strasbourg, France and graduated from Lamar University, then taught school before working in New York City. Doris was devoted to her church, making pilgrimages to Jerusalem, Medjugorje, Lourdes and many others. Doris sang in the Cajun Choir and St. Elizabeth Choir for many years, she did Line Dancing and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Conejo Valley Chapter, Thousand Oaks, CA. She will be remembered as a kind and loving Mother. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Reverend Monsignor Bennie Patillo officiating. Entombment will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil service to begin at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches.
