Doris Marie Pope passed away on November 20th, 2022 at Harbor Hospice of Beaumont. Doris was born to Howard Hamilton and Ethel Mae Guy in Angie, Louisiana on March 11, 1928. She married Winston Richardson W.R. Pope of Angie, Louisiana in 1947, and they lived happily together for 62 years.
Doris and W.R. raised their family in Port Arthur where she was a homemaker for many years. She played basketball as a teenager and loved watching her boys play basketball and baseball. As members of Trinity Baptist Church, they spent many years serving the senior adult ministry and teaching Sunday School, and they loved to bring their grandchildren to church with them. After retirement, they spent their time vacationing with friends and family in their travel trailer and playing cards and dominos with the “Golden Agers.” Doris was also a member of Memorial Baptist Church and treasured the love of her church family. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her son, Larry of Port Arthur; daughter-in-law, Becky of Nederland; grandson, Brian and wife, Tabitha of Groves; granddaughter, Heather and husband, Rodney Waddle of Trophy Club; granddaughter, Haley and husband, Sam Marchand of Beaumont; granddaughter, Ashley and husband, Cory Nicholson of Lumberton; granddaughter, Jenna and husband, Michael Dismukes of Port Acres; great-grandchildren, Avery, Lani, Tyler, Emily, Hadlee, Colton, Matthew, James, Lilly, Tanner, Jaxon, Audrey, Allie, Maddie, and Kate; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, W.R., and son, Donny of Nederland.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Melancon’s Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the Funeral Service to begin at 1:00 p.m. Doris will be laid to rest in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Nederland.
