Obituary
Doris Hemphill Block Webb, 89, passed away on July 21, 2026, at Forever Young Care Home. She was born in Groves, Texas on December 30, 1936, to Lillie Adams Hemphill and J. H. "Butch" Hemphill.
She was a Charter Member of Friendship (now Grace) Baptist Church in Groves. She was a proud 1955 graduate of Port Neches-Groves High School, where she was a 2-year member of the Indianettes.
Doris retired from Gulf States Utilities in 1995. After retirement, she took up art as a hobby and became very good at painting. She was a member of the Texas Artist's Museum Society, Port Arthur Art Association, Nederland Art Guild and the Port Arthur Garden Club.
Doris loved anything associated with the PN-G Indians and was a Houston Astros fan. She loved to watch Hallmark and Lifetime movies, and she loved listening to and dancing to music. Many of the area bands and singers knew her well. She had many circles of friends. She was the "Social Butterfly" who kept former classmates, retirees, and friends connected by organizing monthly lunches for each group.
She faced many health issues throughout the final decade of her life and pushed to keep going as long as she could.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and J. H. "Butch" Hemphill, her husband, William "Bill" Webb, and siblings, Elsie Richardson, Margie Howe, Ruth Beck, and Jimmy Hemphill.
Her memory will live through those she is survived by, her three children, Kay Block Bourghs and her husband, Larry, Evelyn Jo Block Story and her husband, Micki, and Lane Block and his wife, Tiffany, all of Groves. She is also survived by two grandsons, Aaron Choate and wife, Diann and Cory James and his wife, Heather, two great-grandsons, Ethan Choate and Coltin Choate. She is also survived by Diann's children, Andrew, Leo, and Virginia, as well as, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Doris' life will be remembered with a visitation on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. then a Celebration of Life to follow at 6:00 p.m. all to be held at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home, 5601 39th Street, Groves, Texas.
