Dorothy Jean Bennett McCall, a beloved member of the community in Port Neches, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024, at Bonne Vie Nursing Home in Port Arthur, Texas.
She was born on October 19, 1929, in Sabine County. Dorothy’s life was truly marked by her kindness, selflessness, and unwavering dedication to God and helping others.
Dorothy graduated from Hemphill High School in 1946, she embarked on a career as a cosmetologist in Beaumont, Texas for five years. She met the love of her life, Judge Morris D. McCall, whom she married in 1956 after their fateful encounter while square dancing in 1954. She worked at Baptist Hospital Insurance Department until the birth of her son in 1961.
A devout member of the First Methodist Church in Port Neches, Texas for an impressive 66 years. Dorothy dedicated much of her time to volunteering in various capacities within the church community. Her warm smile and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Most of Dorothy’s life was caring for her children and family members. Dorothy loved to garden; fresh produce was what she had grown up on as a child. Some of her other hobbies included making baby blankets and baking for the church bazaar. She also loved to play dominoes at the Port Neches Senior Citizen Center.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Judge Morris D. McCall. Parents: Benn Perkins Bennett and Bertha Solly. Siblings: Don P. Bennett Sr. and wife Pat, Maurene Roberts and her husband Wilber, Joy Cowart and her husband Robert, and Archie Bennett.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion survived by her daughter, Ann Rawlinson (Brent) of Port Neches; son, Drew McCall (Lisa) of Orangefield; and four grandchildren: Cody Hebert, Tyler Hebert, Emily McCall, and Katey McCall. Sister-in law, Carolyn Bennett whom she talked to daily.
The family wants to thank all the friends and family that came to check on Dorothy and prayed for our beautiful Mother.
A visitation to honor Dorothy’s life will take place at Melancon Levingston Funeral Home in Port Neches, Texas, Thursday, April 11th from 5:00pm – 7:00pm.
The funeral services will be held at First Methodist Church of Port Neches, Texas, Friday, April 12th at 2:00pm to be followed by graveside prayers at Oak Bluff Cemetery.
