A Life Remembered

Obituary

Dorothy “Dot” Sonnier departed this life on June 3, 2026, in Port Neches, Texas, at the venerable age of 94. Born on November 25, 1931, in Port Arthur, Texas, Dot embodied a life rich with devotion to family, faith, and community. Her passing marks the close of an era filled with warmth, laughter, and indelible memories.

Dot’s steadfast faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A devoted parishioner of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, she faithfully attended Mass and found solace and strength in her spiritual home. Her love for her church was evident to all who knew her, and she remained a loving and active member throughout her lifetime. Never one to shy away from engaging with others, Dot never met a stranger. She was known for her hearty laughter and engaging conversations, qualities that endeared her to many and colored every gathering with joy.

Her character bore the qualities of a disciplinarian within the family, a guiding presence whose nurturing extended beyond raising children to shaping the lives of all who entered her home. Dot’s impeccable seamstress skills and her culinary prowess, particularly in preparing Cajun meals, were well regarded among friends and family alike. The scent of her cooking brought loved ones together, filling the household with warmth and a palpable sense of belonging.

Dot briefly served as secretary at St. Catherine’s School, contributing her diligence and grace to the workplace. Beyond professional pursuits, she relished moments of leisure that kept her spirit lively. Alongside her husband, she was a cherished participant in their Friday night domino club, a testament to their enduring partnership and jovial companionship.

The hearth of her home was eternally open for family gatherings, especially during holidays when all were drawn to her table. These occasions were a testament to her love and generosity, as she cherished every opportunity to surround herself with her beloved family. Dot proudly held the mantle as the “QVC Queen,” delighting in the excitement of discovering treasures and sharing joys with friends and family through the screen.

Among her proudest accomplishments was her role as the most lovable and caring mother, creating a sanctuary where her children’s friends were always welcome, enveloped in kindness and warmth. Her memberships in the Red Hats Ladies Club and the Renew Bible Group further illuminated her commitment to friendship and faith-based fellowship.

Dorothy’s loving family remains the living legacy of her gentle spirit. She is survived by her sons, Ricky Sonnier and his wife, Rose of Port Neches; daughters, Bonnie Burke of Port Neches and Carol Guidry of Corpus Christi; and son-in-law, John Eischens of Houston.
